There are quite a few resources out there for page flip effects.

 

In many cases it necessitates breaking a pdf down into individual swf files and adding them to an xml type listing to create a page flip effect such as this one I have done:

Dependant on browser and flash plug you may find it loads and works fine or it may be a very very slow load -

 

Not all in all a good solution for the client.

 

Looking at the same brochure on issuu at:

The question is this - has anyone had more than my 3 hours of experience of playing with these type of things and have recommendations for better solutions?

Another solution you can also have a try: Kvisoft Flipbook Maker Pro, it can also convert PDF to page flip publications, and you can edit the pages such as adding links, embed videos, add images to the pages to enrich your content. Hope this helps!
