Hi peeps

 

the marketing co-ordinator sprung on me today that he'd like a photo gallery on our website since he took alot of pictures at the recent H&R show at ExCel this pass weekend.

 

my question is how would i make a good looking one?

 

my first thoughts are a flash one, but no my operations manager doesn't want to use flash because of compatibility issues (really?! who doesnt have flash now days!!)

 

so i guess its going to be PHP or JS?

 

basicaly i want a thumbnails along the top with arrows either side to scroll through the thumb nails, and when you click a image it brings it up nice and big below,

 

would be on www.chelmerheating.co.uk (without the boxes that hold the current content i'll just use the white background and a border on the images)

 

so yeah basically i don't know PHP or JS enough to make one myelf (infact i know very little) so if someone could point me in the right direction of a decent script or program that can do this for me would be great

Have a look at SmoothGallery which runs on the mootools javascript library.

I think Flash is on more than 95% of the computers using the Internet. It is something ridiculously high like that, so you won't have to realistically worry about people not having it.

 

However, I'm not a great fan of Flash, although it can be used to great effect for small things (rarely do I like full Flash sites above a novelty factor). I would go with a Javascript solution.

there is any number of ways - ue javascript for transition effects - use flash and stick an xml feed into it (especialy useful if database driven)

 

A lot depends on if you need to build it into a custom cms solution and allow image uploads like here:

Without flash you do narrow your options and even with javascript transitions its not going to have the same polish - I am not a fan of flash but in picture galleries for me its the best solution.
