  1. thanks for your suggestion.. after endless hours of pulling my hair out i was able to sort the toggle. it was because i wasnt declaring the javascript scripts in the right order.. stupid eh. now, i have another problem though! bad times. thanks for helping out! rufus
  2. hey guys, iv been doing this new site for my uncle and i want to toggle the text box on the page to show and hide the picture behind. iv been stuck on this for ages and im getting a bit frustrated so i wondered if anyone can help! the web address is www.yunitube.co.uk i hope someone can shed some light for me. i have used this bit of simple code as well as referring to the jquery library at the start of the page: $(document).ready(function() { $("#v_toggle").click(function() { $("#vertical_slide").toggle(); }); }); for some reason i cant get it to work. basically, i would like the user to click the question mark on the page and it shows and hides the text box.. ok im repeating myself now. please help! THANKS
  3. stardog, i really like your idea. Dont know why i didnt think of that! It worked perfectly aswell. still annoyed that i cant grasp my problems with float and clear functions in IE but hopefully it will come! Its working .. so thank you very much!
  4. before you buy some have you checked out sxc.hu ... or something like that. loads of cool freebies, check it out. where abouts in devon are you by the way?
  5. no sorry, the lines above and below the container div are supposed to be spaced evenly.. and are in every browser. it is only minor but it is really bugging me. basically at the moment, in IE8 the top one appears a lot closer to the content than the bottom one is.. does that make more sense? sorry if i am not being clear. thanks for any help!
  6. silly silly me. no its not that but thanks for letting me know anyway. should have checked that before i put it on here, i have been messing around with it so much! thanks for that john
  7. im so reluctant to post this because i have had so much previous help on this issue.. i dont want everyone thinking im not trying to learn from these posts and just riding on your expertise. But after a couple of days .. the last resort is here. i think it is a float problem, basically i have 4 'main' divs on my page.. two displaying simple (*cough) lines and two that hold the content.. a bit of text and a picture. it is actually the lines i am having problems with. They are displaying with different margins despite them both being set to the same height.. that is the main problem. basically, the top line is showing up closer to the container than the bottom one. (let me know if you want me to post some code, im sort of assuming you have firebug or an equivalent....) i cant believe i am struggling on such a simple design but this one is just not liking me. as always it is fine on safari and firefox.. sorry guys. any help would be much appreciated! www.rufus-denne.co.uk/pages/subs/tupping.html (and yes this is going to be a thrilling site when its done! )
  8. if this helps... design. first on a peice of paper. put it in photoshop.. code. i html the main div elements first. then normally style some of the divs just to see basic heights widths floats.. etc. making them funny colors so that they show up when i preview in browsers and then go from there really.. im still a novice, but i do find it really helpful making divs funny colors so i can see what is going on!

  10. that does help loads thank you very much. id never heard of that before. however, the navigation doesn't work at all and the .line class has been made very fat instead of 1 px. also in my subscribe div.. nothing is looking right, the buttons etc. very frustrating! can anyone help?
  11. As always, im having more problems with internet expplorer.. it sails through the w3c validator both the httml and the css, however it is struggling still with IE. www.rufus-denne.co.uk/pages/home.html could anyone please advise me as to what i could be doing wrong.. with reference to the navigation and the text and subscribe divs. as you can probably see they are not enjoying life under my rule in internet explorer. p.s. every other browser is displaying the page fine! thanks.
  12. i really dont like it sorry.
  13. i would like to see it centered.. i dont like it aligned to the left! apart from that. awsome job, especially for 14!!
  14. got it! thanks for all your help!
  15. i really like it.. layout and color scheme are coooool! i dont like the look of the navigation though. i think it could do with being a bit bolder and i have never been a fan of capitalization! despite how 'grammatically correct' it is! i think uppercase might be a nice touch! i had to try and find something!
