  1. So I've started trying to teach myself php and mySQL and it is so damn frustrating! I've hardly progressed anywhere yet. I think the problem is that at least with html and css you get visual indicators of your progress. Where as the error page seems to love me at the moment How long did it take anyone here that learnt to get comfortable with it? Also does everyone interact with MySQl through the command line prompt or do you use something else? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHH
  2. Thats the kind of thing I mean but I'd like to code it. It doesn't even have to be that in depth. Basically the company I work for needs to have a simple editable database that a member of staff can see whats completed. The scenario is: Schedule of events and dates etc is supplied and would need to be entered in and displayed by date. Then a simple system of changing the event colour once task/event completed which updates for everyone. Once a weeks passed the data can be wiped and start again. I'm sure there'll be an easy way to php mySQL it but that area is just not my forte! Thanks for the suggestions
  3. This is a shot in the dark seeing as this is mainly a web design forum but there are many intelligent and clued up people so it's worth a shot All I want to do is code/build a simple little program that would allow me to have a schedule of things to do and once a task in completed to change colour once a drop down box is changed to done or yes etc. Also be able to run it across a computer network so several users could use it at once and it would update for them. I've tried to explain it clearly but tell me if I haven't!!! If anyone could point out a way to do this or a free program I could use and customize then that would be great Thanks for any help!
  4. I think it went quite well, a problem I have i think is that my work isn't as commercial as maybe it should be so it might put potential employers off if they think I can't translate customer ideas. On the whole though I got my points across and they seemed reasonably happy with my work. I'll just have to see what happens. They said the wage was 13000 which I thought was quite low seeing as I do a unskilled job at the moment and get 14500. Thoughts?
  5. I have my first interview for a web design company tomorrow and I'm very excited, I have had job interviews before obviously but how do web ones differ? Do you think I should take a selection of work along on disk or what? I found out at very short notice and would have ideally liked a few days to prepare stuff. Key points to remember? And one last question for you lovely people! They said I should come along with a salary exception, what price range should I value myself baring in mind I'm a recent graduate 2.1 but with no commercial experience? Thanks a lot and wish me luck!
  6. Well after that hell of a nightmare I'm back online. Thanks for all the suggestions and help guys it did seem to work a bit. In the end I had to ring a friend of mine up who came and worked his magic. Absolute whizz kid with zero qualifications so finds it hard to get a IT job. The problem started about a year ago apparently. Zipped brush set from deviant art had let a trojan in and exploited a gap in my system. This let a virus in a few weeks ago that every time I turned my computer on or off it deleted a section of my registry files which eventually stopped it working completely. He managed to completely fix it, in eternal gratitude i'm going to make him a website for which to promote himself and his skills. If anyone is in the leeds area and needs data recovery or serious computer skills than this guy is the man!! P.s. I posted on two forums about this problem and I must say this confirms I love this site the most as I had loads of helpful responses Cheers lads and lasses!
  7. Have I got a really clever virus? Everything works fine. Try and click on or go to anything related to virus scanning etc like the links you gave and it just comes up with error? ARGHHHHH But once again thanks for all the help
  8. Thanks for the help Abid. That is a last resort though as I would just like to find the problem and not let it beat me. AVG returns nothing so I'm now scanning with avast. Anyone know of any other good scanner/fixing programs?
  9. Did a registry scan and it gave me 799 errors but they seem to relate more to remainders of deleted files and as far as i can check they are safe. Any other ideas? Sorry to pester but I think i'll cry if this computer goes down the pan. It's my baby! lol
  10. this is ridiculous I can't access any pages like that super anti spyware!!! Anything like scanning or virus in the title and it just won't load. I have 7 svchost.exe running on my system is that normal? Thanks for the help so far people!
  11. Apparently that stsystra.exe is just an audio file etc. Any other thoughts ideas solutions?
  12. I know this isn't probably the best forum to post on but I come on here quite a lot and everyone will probably be knowledgeable on the subject. My computer is having problems booting up. I scanned it and had two trojan horses. I use AVG. Plus Zonealarm. AVG deleted the trojan horses but now whenever I click a link it takes me to adverts for random things. The only way I can access sites is if I know the address and type it in. Could anyone help as I'm really worried. This is a list of system proccesses incase anyone can see a immediate problem, AdskScSrv.exe AffinegyService.exe alg.exe ati2evxx.exe avgamsvr.exe avgcc.exe avgemc.exe avgupsvc.exe bcmwltry.exe csrss.exe ctfmon.exe DLACTRLW.exe DLG.exe dllhost.exe DMXLauncher.exe ehmsas.exe ehrecvr.exe ehSched.exe ehtray.exe explorer.exe firefox.exe IAAnotif.exe IAANTMon.exe iPordService.exe issch.exe ISUSPM.exe iTunesHelper.exe jusched.exe lsass.exe mcrdsvc.exe msnmsgr.exe notepad.exe Pen_Tablet.exe Pen_Tablet.exe PenTabletUser.exe raysat_3dsMax8s.exe realplay.exe rpcapd.exe services.exe smss.exe spoolsv.exe stsystra.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe svchost.exe System System Idle Process taskmgr.exe winlogon.exe wmiprvse.exe wpa_supplicant.exe zlclient.exe Thanks a lot for any help or guidance. And yes I'm starting to back my files up!
  13. I have started a horizontal scrolling site. The image height is fine until tabs are used in the browser window which then triggers the vertical scroll bar. What should I do? I have a background paper texture that fits the browser fine and a png image but once a tab comes on it forces vertical scrolling.
  14. Why should it kill it for you regarding the use of free vectors? It is neither a commercial or even ever likely to public website. It is only for practice purposes. As to producing all my own vectors I do not always have the time with working full time as well
  15. Thanks for all the answers, I realise that I wouldn't be employable with it straight away but I think you've cleared up my confusion surrounding the language and I going to look into it. I want to master everything but I'm definately going to have to whittle down which areas they'll be!
  16. Thanks for all the replys guys. Picked a php and MySQL book up today. Enjoyed reading it so far and trying stuff out. I'm definately going to look into asp.net as well when I get the time! One other little thing, why if php is superior to asp.net do people and especially a few companies I've looked at stick with it? Is it because they already run websites on it so the change would be too big?? I know all I do on the board is ask questions questions questions but i'm soaking it up like a sponge and others will benefit once I'm confident enough!
  17. From a image though do you think it's a very good style?
  18. Hey guys, Just started a quick design site idea, it's just for fun and revolves around my friends trip around Europe last year. I plan for the site to be horizontally scrolling. As its not going to be for people to access really I can do what I want. Quality isn't amazing due to it'll take forever to load once its coded. What do you think? Anything I can change? Cheers!
  19. I like the header a lot, unsure about whether the menu should be in green. I think its a hard colour to get right in a design. Overall I think it looks good. I'd maybe add a little more decoration down the page if it's going to be a portfolio/showing off stage for yourself hope that helps
  20. After paying the bills I had a little bit of money left over so I though I'd treat myself to the transcending css book and a few php ones as I really want to learn it. Anyway I have some money left over and would like to buy some stock photography, do you guys use one stock photography site exclusively? I looked at stockxpert and istock and they seem similar but which would you recommend for long time subscription?
  21. Anyone? Sorry to be a bug I'm just really curious, yes I've read up on it but there seems to be differing sources of info!
  22. I've only just graduated and already get annoyed at students, especially when they steal your bbq drunk in the middle of the night! Unluckily for them they left a trail of wet ash! ninja time!
  23. Hey guys, I sent off some CV's the other day and had a reply from a company who said although they liked my designs and css/xhtml they didn't have a position available. They did say that if I could get to grips with asp.net then they may have a job for me. Firstly it's a long shot from them and probably nigh on impossible for me I'm just wondering how easy a language is it to pick up? Keep in mind that I know css/xhtml and that is it as far as the web is concerned. I know people may say learn others things or concentrate on easier stuff but I do like to challenge myself and they are a cool company. I'd be willing to devote a lot of time to it as well if it could be beneficial even if I don't get anywhere with it in regards to the job. Thanks for any replys
