  1. Hello All, Just a quick one - looking for some pointers etc on the below... I want to create a 'file convertor site' - so a user uploads a file (using a browse file button) and then selects the type of file they want the uploaded one converted to - but cannot seem to figure out how to start... as in how do i get this type of file convert automation etc? What happens if i want them to have an option to convert into a file type that not the usual ones (like .AI for example?) Not finding much resource on the search engines so hoping for some ideas here? much appreciated rka81
  2. Not sure if anyone has already seen this site but i came across it while searching "Page Rank" ..... isellpagerank.com It sells high PR links but the home page itself doesnt have a PR at all!!! Does that not seem a bit worrying to you guys!! ha ! ha! Just made me laugh.
  3. Oh well, thanks guys.
  4. Ha ha yeah I was afraid that might be the case....was hoping I was wrong. I have some Photoshop files. I will just have to trust people ........!!
  5. Hello, Just wondered if anyone may be able to assist. I am currently building an e-commerce site, where files (all different types) that I create can be downloaded. I was wondering if it is possible to protect my files from being copied (after they have been downloaded) and distributed elsewhere without my consent. Is it possible to make my files read only, so they can be used but not copied after they have been downloaded? Of is there another route that I may take to protect my files. Any help appreciated. Thanks
  6. I think that as I am trying to break into the IT world (not as freelance but with companies) I am concerned that without having some kind of qualification its going to be difficult for me to transition. Web design is what i would prefer to get involved in (tho i may look at other areas as well) - It one to ensure that I am (my CV not me!!) attractive to potential employers and also i suppose a bit of a confidence thing by making sure i cover things that i should know if i was to be a weeb designer/developer. One course i have come across is a CIW Web Designer course but getting an impartial view of if this is a course that is "well known" or worth getting on my cv is suprisingly hard! Has anyone heard of this course?
  7. Hi, thanks... I have been doing webdesign as a hobby for a while now and, as you have said, been teaching myself from various internet sites/tutorials and feel i have picked quite a bit up now. Though on paper I obviously have nothing to my name for employers to see - if u dont mind me asking are you doing a web design course at uni at the moment? I have heard that the Cisco qualification are very good (and hard!) and then the others that I see on pretty much every course site are the Microsoft ones. Have you any opinion on those ones? Finding it quite hard to narrow down what to do (partly because i am unsre of which area i actually want to get into) Anyway thanks for your help and i will look into the cisco ones..
  8. Hello, I am looking to retrain and change my career to move into the world of IT. I am interested in becoming a web designer/developer or maybe the systems/database way of life (i am not too sure to be honest) I am however, really confused as to what are the best exams to look to take and what type of job i will be able to get afterwards as suprisingly i havent found this info too easy to come across. I was wondering of those of you out there, are you currenty in an IT role, which ones and how you managed to get there (I am not looking at doing a degree in say something like Computer Science - i just want to do a more direct it exam) Are there any exams that you have found have helped you with breaking into the IT world? My main career experience is within Operational area of large banks so would probably look to get IT roles within the same financial sectors. Any help is really appreciated. thanks
  9. Hello, I am looking to design a site that is very similar in the way Yahoo Answers works - I have been googling Open Source Software all day and am still unable to find any that are of a similar thing. Does anyone know any open source products that are simliar to the yahoo Answers site? thanks
  10. Totally agree. Its all about getting yourself (or you site) known. Blogs, Forums, Directories they all help. Take time to read up on SEO (look around this forum for help) and keep going. It can really feel hard sometimes, putting in the work with little (early) results, but keep going and good luck
  11. Hello, I am really hoping someone can help me with the following as I am running out of different things to try.... For about a year i have had a redirect setup within cpanel for one of my subdomain which points toward a certain directory mydomain.co.uk points towards mydomain.co.uk/directory This has been working fine until recently when i noticed that it now does redirect - if you type my domain name into your browser it just stays in the root directory (mydomain.co.uk) Now I removed the redirect, tried setting it up again, tried writing it different incase i had done it wrong and then after several live chat session with my host have had to raise a ticket with the support team. They have since responding telling me first of all that it is all working fine - well its not (i have cleared cookies and everything and tried again (on my desktop and my laptop to make sure) and then when i explained this to them i was told the following: "You would need to make a redirect rule in .htaccess for this to happen. Or we can Change your DocumentRoot to point to the CC directory. Unfortunately htaccess file is beyond our support. " Now, i am a bit confused how it did work and though nothing has changed it has stopped working, why if i set up a new redirect it doesnt work and regarding the hosts message above can anyone give me instruction how to do this...... i kinda thought that my redirect in cpanel would do all this for me??? any help appreciated....
  12. Hi, I wonder if someone may be able to clear up something for me... I am designing a personal wedding website (for myself not commercial) and wish to add some music to it that can be played (First Dance song). Now if I have bought the song, am i allowed to put it on my site? I dont stand to profit from this song in any way its just background music..... I just cant seem to find any clarification on this anywhere? Any help anyone? Thanks in advance
  13. Hello All, I am getting ready to build a e-commerce site that will offer downloadable(virtual) products only and am looking for opinions on which software to use. I would like something with a good modern look and obviously the usual options/mods. I have previously used osCommerce and Zen Cart both of which I find do the job in hand but have areas where they can improve (look and feel). I have come across the following, both of which i like and have test driven the onsite demos but am unable to decide which path is the one to take so am looking for any opinions or even other options from everyone..... I am currently impressed with PrestaShop and Magento so please feel free to offer your opinions or experience on either or both Thanks in advance.
  14. Hi, I have been looking for a auction script as well and came across the phpprobid one - i havent purchased it yet as I am trying to find reviews for it before i do. So has anyone used this? From the demo it does look like one of the best? Also, there is a phpauction script that come with most hosting packages tho, it doesnt allow the admin to charge fees (anyone mod'd this) - its the free valuation version - and i dont think it looks as good as the phpprobid any reviews/comments on both appreciated. Thanks
  15. Brilliant. I will check it out - there are so many options out there that i never know which one is the best to try. I cant say that wordpress is one i have looked at yet but will do and let you know. thanks again
  16. Hi, I have a Canon 450D with the 18-35mm lens also have a 70-350mm zoom with a macro. Really into all the photography stuff and cant put my camera down!
  17. Just a quick one.... (Well maybe!) I have a site that I want to add a blog to but I am not sure which is the best route to take and am hoping you guys have some views:- 1.) Sign up and use one of the established blogs sites out there - not really an option as I dont want the whole mynewblog.blogger.com url as i have my own domain. 2.) Again, go for the establish blog site route but i believe you can do a FTP option where you change the DNS of your domain so it is you actual url that you own. I dont fully understand this as I already have things currently on my site (shopping basket etc) and dont want the sole purpose of the site to be a blog so not sure if this is possible. 3.) Install my own blog using some of the software out there - tho am concerned that this, as great as they are, wont have all the cool stuff/add ons as the established blog sites.... Hope that all made sense and hope there are some views out there. If you have/are hosting your own blog, i would be interested in your views and which ones your are using. Thanks
