1. Adding a robots.txt should keep some search crawlers out but as a precaution I'd run the front and for super admin access only so you need to be logged in to see it. Most modern CMS's allow you do do this via a config setting.
2. Your domain URL should be set via the sites configuration so swapping this value when you transfer the site should automatically update dynamic links. In the case of hard coded absolute links do a search and replace in your content fields to remove or replace them.
