  1. A good start! The next thing you may want to try is externalizing your CSS (styling) into a .css file. Once you have your Styling in a .css file, you can have multiple pages linking to it and only have to change the CSS file to change the look of ALL the webpages. the <DIV> tag is also very useful (its basically a box/container that you can style/size and fill with text/pics/etc). It works alongside CSS and will help you to design pages that look more professional and interesting. Good work, keep up the learning! Jarrad
  2. I didn't manage to get this working completely. I edited your ELSE statement to this to get it working: $where_option_action = " AND action = '$option_action[0]' "; But I still can't seem to get the IF statement working. I broke it into two lines to help me understand it: $temp = implode(',',$option_action); $where_option_action = " AND action IN ('$temp') "; I cannot work out how to get the $temp variable to become read as a variable. The SQL IN command requires formatting like this: (' criteria ') to work, so I need two more 's around the $temp, right? Sorry if I'm on the wrong track, I'm new to this stuff. Jarrad
  3. I have this form: It is a HTML form that allows the user to select ONE OR MORE options in each box. I have the user's choices posting to a php document that will then run an SQL query to return the firearms that match their criteria. I have all the user's criteria assigned to PHP variables and ready to plug into an SQL Query. But that's where I need some help! It needs to work as such: SELECT *(all fields) FROM firearms (table) WHERE action= bolt OR lever AND make= tikka OR weatherby OR gamo AND calibre= 222 OR 270 OR 308 OR 338 AND stock= wood OR synthetic AND barrel= stainless steel Obviously this is not the correct syntax, and the WHERE criteria will change as users select different choices. Can anyone help me to create the correct query that will satisfy the user's changing criteria? Here is a snippet of the PHP I've been playing with showing my $variable arrays: $option_action = $_POST['option_action']; $option_make = $_POST['option_make']; $option_calibre = $_POST['option_calibre']; $option_stock = $_POST['option_stock']; $option_barrel = $_POST['option_barrel']; $query = "SELECT * FROM firearms where make IN ('$option_make[0]', '$option_make[1]', '$option_make[2]', '$option_make[3]', '$option_make[4]') ;

    Yeah, I always Google my questions before cluttering Forums with them. I couldn't find anything related to it. I'm SURE I've seen plenty of web-forms with nice neat boxes and no scroll-bars on their sides. Like the one in this forum when you write a post, for example! Is there another (reasonable) way to make a Option-Box other than using HTML?
  5. Thanks for the help everyone. One follow-up question I have in relation to the padding tag that has been recommended is: Due to the inconsistencies between browsers, won't the padding TAG change the size of DIVs and bug the (precise) layout of my DIV boxes? Here is the layout in its present form (again): http://home.exetel.com.au/jazzy/template_css_styling.php ***Edit: Additional question I just thought to ask: when using a <p></p> TAG, does the body of text enclosed inside have a paragraph space, before or after it? Meaning, If I use <p> on my FIRST paragraph, will the text start on line 2, or on line 1. *** Sorry if this is a confusing way to ask this
  6. Update - This seems to have resolved itself after I merged this code with my PHP SQL Query stuff. So thanks to all those who took a look at it, even if you couldn't find a solution. On another note - does anyone know the best way to put a small MARGIN inside each DIV box so that the text doesn't touch the edge of its box? Thanks! Jarrad

    I have made an HTML Form using the following code: <select multiple size=5 name="make_dropbox"> <option>Item1 <option>Item2 <option>Item3 <option>Item4 <option>Item5 </select> This makes an Option-Selection-Box that is 6 lines high and allows the user to select more than one Item by dragging the mouse, or CTRL clicking. When I run this form in my browser, it works great. But There is a scroll-bar on the right hand edge of the Option-Selection-Box that is greyed-out and un-useable. I'd like to remove that scroll-bar so that the Option-Selection-Box is clean and uniform. I don't need the Scrollbar, and it looks ugly, so any ideas on how to remove it? Thanks! Jarrad
  8. Dreamweaver is really just a GUI (Graphical User Interface) for editing text files with various web extensions (Eg: .html .php .css) If you know how to write and edit CSS, you can do it with something as simple as Microsoft Notepad. I'd start with creating a stylesheet like this one: http://home.exetel.com.au/jazzy/library/stylesheet.css This .css file tells any other .html file that is linked to it, what to look like. So you could link say, 15 .html files that make up your web page to it, and then all you'd have to do is change the .css file to manipulate the 15 .html s. I'm not quite sure if this was the question you were asking, so let me know if I'm on the wrong track. Jarrad
  9. Thanks for the reply. It's good to know that I'm headed in the right direction. I was worried I'd have to learn ColdFusion as well to get this happening! I'm sure I'll have plenty of questions as I begin to develop the site. My biggest issue so far is trying to get my DIVS working in both FF and IE, LoL! But that's in another thread! As an update: I have just managed to merge my (mostly working) CSS DIV boxes and my PHP-Submit-Query code, so the output from the database is 'pretty'. Now for the real challenge of designing the user input forms to talk with the DB.
  10. Hi there, I'm in the planning stages of designing a website, and I'm trying to get my head around the range of coding-languages and programs I'll need to do it. Here's my vision: 1 - A website that is linked to a Database of items and their specifications 2 - A user-customizable FORM that submits an SQL Query to the database and returns a list of items. (Example: Dropdown boxes that allow a user to select say Cars that have 4 cylinders, and only return results that have that particular feature) 3 - The ability for users to Join the site with a username and password. Users would be able to use a form to submit short reviews on products in the database that they already own. In relation to the numbers above, here's where I'm up to: 1 - I'm currently running WAMP with MySQL and a database. 2 - I was thinking of making a HTML FORM and passing the user inputs to a PHP script that would submit the query. But I don't know if PHP can interact with HTML forms like this. I presently have PHP submitting SQL Queries and returning results to a webpage, but the queries are not yet user customizable. 3 - I was thinking maybe another user FORM that submitted user details to a USER TABLE in my database. When users came back to the site to login, PHP could submit a query and validate their details? You still following? So yes, I'm a bit ambitious, but will learn whatever code or programs needed to do this. Am I even remotely on the right track with my thoughts, or is there a better way to go about it all? Thanks! Jarrad
  11. Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and CSS, so I'm just starting to discover all the inconsistencies between Firefox and IE. I personally use Firefox, but of course, most of the world uses IE so I'd like to understand how to get compatible code for both before I build too many DIV elements. Heres the sample CSS page: http://home.exetel.com.au/jazzy/template_css_styling.php The CSS Styles are held in an external Style Sheet located in /library/stylesheet.css As you can see, in the IE browser, the DIV box that holds the Image has extended itself slightly which pushes the Specs2 DIV box out of alignment. Here an extract from the stylesheet. (there is more code in the actual stylesheet, but its blanked out as developer notes): If anyone could help me resolve / understand whats happening here it would be much appreciated. Thanks, Jarrad
