  1. Hi Browser bugs, Thanks so much for the advice! My sample pack is on its way and they seem very helpful so hopefully I should be sorted. Your a star! Ebo.
  2. Thanks so much guys. I was seriously scratching my noggin on this one.... But I think with your help things will go a lot smoother now as I feel i'm on the right track. @ Theodora - Just what I was looking for! Thanks a lot. Really useful information :-) @MMMedia - Thanks so much! Great advice would never have known about the differences with the colour black;-) @4li4s - After a chat with the client based on Thedora's advice I have been told the client expects me to do the printing...So I guess I need to find a good company. You were right, the links are excellent sources for stationary. Thanks, your the man!! @BrowserBugs - Thanks so much for the info. Will check out the recommended company. If I have any more worries I know where to look for help. Much appreciated guys Ebo .-)
  3. Hi All, I have a couple of questions for the graphic designers out there! I have been asked to design some stationery for a company I am doing a website for. Initially I declined as this is not my area of expertise but they wanted the whole package or would look for someone else. so I accepted....They have asked for a letter head, business card, compliment slips etc. The company already has a logo, (Thank goodness...) but I have not designed for print before as I am a web designer. Can anyone be kind enough to let me know if there is anything I should ask the client before hand to make this go as smoothly as possible as I have no idea about designing for print except that I should use CYMK as opposed to RGB. Also does anyone know of any UK guidelines I should be following with regards to the sizes and sending the client the finished product. I plan to design the elements in Photoshop as that is the program I feel most comfortable with. I just feel that as a web designer there are some things that I might not take into consideration as I am not a graphic designer. Most people I ask say it should be quite straight forward but they are not graphic designers. I just thought I would ask the professionals. Any help, tips or points in the right direction would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance guys and I look forward to hearing for you. Ebo :-)

  6. Hi 4li4s, sorry for the delay..... I keep getting an error when I try to send posts even without any links in them at all.... This is the link to my website wwwdotyvonnejosephdotcom. It has not been updated in a while i'm afraid but I think you get the idea. Let me know what you think or some suggestions. Thanks, Ebo (It worked once I removed the emoticons! I can only add them by editing after the post is sent....)

  8. Hi BlueDreamer, Thanks for your welcome and your comments. I think the prices you mentioned are on par with my own expectations for a London based web designer at a intermediate level and that is what I was charging when I was doing contracting work. So thanks for showing that my expectations have not really changed as I thought maybe they were no longer realistic given the current climate. I guess trying to figure out when I should charge a day rate or hour rate is also an issue but I try to tailor it to the contract depending on size, duration, content etc.. so i think I am probably doing what most others do in my field. I will definitely look into your suggestions and I think you are right to suggest specializing in an area as I feel like im a "Jack of all trades, master of none.." at the moment. Ebo.

  10. Hi all, @Nillervision - thanks for the welcome and your encouragement. I was at the stage when I was just getting comfortable with html4 (I never really got into xhtml..) When HTML5 was suddenly what everyone was asking for. I am tentatively starting to use html5 elements so I guess I will just keep going until I get comfortable with them as well. @4li4s - Thanks also for the welcome and having a look at my work. Glad you liked it. I do have a live site I will send you the link shortly. @ Teodora - Thanks also for having a look at my work and for your encouragement. Glad you liked it. It would be interesting to see if you guys think I am actually an intermediate level ...or not. I have been working on my first hand-coded project as I think that might be a good way of seeing if my skills are intermediate or not so I will post a link to it soon. I hope to see what level people think I should be or perhaps offer some advice/criticism, whatever really as I would like to know what level I really am and see if I am doing them same as other industry standard people are. Or perhaps anyone knows of another way to rate my skills? Thanks all, Ebo

  14. Thanks for the welcome Ahmad. I was starting to think I had said something wrong.... I would be happy to share the knowledge I have and learn from others as I believe our chosen field of work is one where you are forever learning something new . E.
  15. Hello everyone! Hi I’m a newbie to forums so please be gentle…. I am a London based web designer who would like to get some points of view from others in my field. Currently I would say that I have been a struggling web designer for the past two years but have been actively involved in the industry for 5yrs. In the quiet periods I have tried to develop my skills and I would say I am probably a mid-weight web designer. I have done a few contracts in between but working by myself makes me feel as if my skills are not industry standard as I have been mostly self taught beyond my degree and work experiences. I have, what I consider to be a good portfolio but having been pretty much off-the-scene for so long, I have now taken on a few contracts both paid and un-paid to keep my portfolio up to date and I am finding it difficult to set prices as I am no longer sure of what is current as two years ago I was charging around £150per day but that was for a 3-6 month contract. My current potential paid projects are: - A property portal in Wordpress with theme modification or readymade theme. (This will be my first...) - A 15page (approx) business website in Wordpress with 6 videos with theme modification or readymade theme. My skill set is roughly: CSS/HTML - intermediate CSS3/HTML5 - beginner (the unpaid projects are to practice this) Wordpress - intermediate Photoshop - intermediate Does anyone have any estimates on how much I should charge? Does anyone else have the same issues as I do or some advice on things I should consider or how I could do things better? In any case, I thought this would be a good place to start and see what others in my field think. Thanks for taking the time to read this, I look forward to hearing from you guys :-) Ebo.
