  1. Hi Pixels,I know very little about web design but a lotabout promotion and marketing, I had google adsense for a while, it managed to pay hosting costs but when my site got more traffic and i was a couple of dollars off another payment they cancelled my account for erratic clicking, when questioning this they said they had the right to do so and didn't need to provide evidence, they also said that the revenue I earned would be returned to the advertisers.........yeh right I searched the net and found 100's of similar stories, you need a lot of traffic as not many of your visitors will click the Ads and the ad box is quite boring but needs to be in a prominent spot or no one will see it and use it, so it actually makes your site look a bit ugly like a pimple on Kelly Brooks face. Look at other options, my web host for example (in Europe) has free hosting with No Ads, for free you get 200mb of web space and 4gb a month bandwidth, or if you pay it is $4.95 (about 3.30 pound) a month and it includes a free .com .co.uk .net .biz etc or domain transfer, they even have a free domain if you like with there own extension, paid you get unlimited space and bandwidth plus full support for Dreamweaver, Frontpage, PHP, CGI, Perl etc Look at businesses in your area or beyond, if you have a high traffic site then sell them a bit of advertising space, if you sold 6 spots at $10 per year (Dollars is easier for me sorry, I have no pound symbol) then it covers domain reg and hosting. For me paid per click advertising looks cheap and you really need a lot of clicks to get anywhere, many including google have a minimum amount they will pay out which is generally around $US100, so you could be over 12 months or more before you see any money, and like google many can for any reason choose not to pay you and cancel membership Cheers Paul
  2. I understand but everyone needs a good start, we do it in my industry (machinery) we give people in final year of school free work experience, I was offering someone a chance to fix up my site and get some exposure in one of the biggest tourism area's in Australia. I didn't ask for andys rant or his obvious observation that my site was crap or his suggestion that because he has the expertise the world will fall at his feet, I have expertise in my field but I have to work hard to make things happen and in the past I put a lot of unpaid hours to get to where I am. I was offering a damn good chance for someone to get a name out their, exposure in an area where technology is new and skills in this field were needed, if, basically building an advert for themselves and a promise of verbal promotion via my contacts. Thanks for unlocking as I am keen to see what people have to say, I can handle criticism (even Bad), if you can handle mine give me your worse I don't want this to be a slanging match though For now I'm sorted with my site, thanks for the positive PM's as for the negative ones..... everyone is entitled to an opinion. I would love to buy you a beer RD, if you get down here drop me a message, thanks again
  3. I know it's terrible, is why I'm asking, I didn't ask for your lip, I don't know why people keep coming back but they do, I can use many web design websites and get a better looking site than I have, but I asked if anyone wanted a project, I'm not offering anyone the world just exposure, if your fed with people asking for free stuff then don't read it, the company I work for is always getting asked for donations and free stuff, we look at all and some get it some don't. Really with your attitude I would find it hard to believe you would get any work
  4. Web Traffic is picking up since I have promoted my site down here, I am about to add links to wineries and breweries and info on same. I manage John Deere here and have a lot of contacts in the winery, tourism and dairy industries, whoever if anyone does the job will get as much promotion as I can give, that I can guarantee, if you get work I can't guarantee, what ever is built will be an advert for the designer really, I suspect with the new domain name and the theme of weather and info I will get more international visitors as well, I have only been her 6 months but is a permanent move. The stats at brave net are not a good indication as the site has been based in Narrogin since 2001 til now, population 4000 and absolutely nothing to attract anyone to the place, before that it was in Morawa, population 200 and less attraction :-) I can also offer free accommodation if the designer ever comes down this way, now thats worth a couple of hundred dollars a day :-)
  5. Sorry guys but it's only a non profit info site that was a hobby, I'm not a mega company or anything, but whoever (if) takes it on will get a fair bit of exposure and I will promote the designer, there are a lot of businesses down this way, including Wineries, Breweries and many tourist related businesses, so some opportunity to get some paid work, Margaret River is in Prime wine country and is a tourist haven, 15 years ago my web skills were advanced, now they're crap I have all the Adobe CS5 Toys but haven't mastered them and time I don't have, if anyone needs a project or some practice then my site is the one :-), i'm not in any hurry, it has been 15 years now it is currently www.paulnock.net but have a new domain www.margriver.com, site is on both The new domain came free for a year when done with new host
  6. Hi all, cheeky question but is anyone interested in blinging up my site as a project, I originally built it 14-15 years ago in dialup days and have never changed it much, no due to work commitments I haven't really got the time, and due to mortgage I don't really have the money My site is just a personal site that gets used by locals and tourists for weather and district info, you would be welcome to put a permanent link and ad, I have MS Frontpage and also Adobe Collection with Dreamweaver and all the other but I haven't worked Adobe out as yet Since I have moved down to this tourist area my site is starting to get a lot of traffic so I think it's timed it changed it's looks, thanks in advance Cheers Paul
