Yes why exactly is ruby better than PHP?

Can anyone give me any other ides or is ruby the best option there is?

Excuse my ignorance but if i used ruby would it be just for the databse end of the site i.e. Server Side? Assume I still use this with xHTML for the front end and use dreamweaver to do everything Also is ruby free if not where do i get it and whats the best way to learn it - any sites or books on it??? if so what are the best ones? also why is ruby better than php - what reasoning behind your thoughts?

Hi chaps I was looking to get someone to design a dating website for me but its taking so long so find someone reliable that I have decided to do it myself. Now I am trying to understand how match.com is built as I want something similiar and need to maybe explain to a co-designer/coder what I need clearly so is the following correct that its is a front end Xhtml/css design with back end database ie a content management system coded on php? If I am being a complete idiot please bear with me as my experience in only with xhtml/css sites to date. Also for the database part, is using drupal or ajax better than php or am I talking rubbish, as like I want the front end to be w3 complaint as much as possible I want the backend to be done using the best posible. That said i have bought the adobe web design premium suite CS3- only for them to go and release cs4..(...is that enbough for me to go and build this site or do i need other software to complete. Note my server is a uk site using fasthosts so assume they support all formats. Also, note that i am not intereste in using free dating scripts as i heard they were prone to all sorts of bugs as well as being easily hackable. EFFECTIVELY WHAT I AM AFTER IS A PLAN OF ATTACK TO USE WHEN DESIGNING A MATCH.COM TYPE SITE - IE WHAT PROPOSAL FOR THE PROJECT IN EASY BULLET POINTS SHOULD I BE TELLING MY CO-DESIGNERS? Thanks for the feedback... The idea is actually stemming from a society/community and will be a "Free" service but which may charge for events later when it has enough members, I was on the board of a similiar site with about 1000 members before and want to make a similiar site based online. I am focusing on getting people on board really for now but thats all the company strategy - my starting focus was about the site design and its impact so your comments are helpful. Like I said i did do a site using notepad and coding but I didnt get much further with it - the design and buttons styling etc all come from the Serif Webplus package as it was cheaper than Dreamweaver and less tough than directly coding onto notepad...do you reckon Dreamweaver is better and worth shelling out the cash for? Will take note of the fonts and reduce them - size 10 is the standard is it? The background will go in not yet sure about a colour for it any ideas? Many thanks R.

Hi All, I am fairly new to web design and my first attempt to build my site was using HTML and CSS whcih worked very well and was W3 compliant but it was fairly dull and not very interactive. I have just recently re-designed my website www.asiansoc.com, and was wondering if you could tell me what you think. The package from Serif is quite new and claims to bridge the gap between DTP and HTML which the application translates the design to. However I saw that after checking it to be compliant that it had manay errors. Also the flash banner doesnt seem to load up neither does the flash gallery. Can you please let me know what you think of my design and also how I can get the flash to work. It maybe because I covered up some of the flash header with white for my logo as it was fairly ugly and grey. Many thanks Raghav
