Hi guys
We have a travel website that has been online for a few years and we just found out (using Copyscape) that someone has copied the entire website (as static HTML) and changed the name.
We used the contact details on the website and found that they have also stolen the phone number and address from a small business in the auto trade who were very surprised when I told them. The contact form on the duplicate site also does not work.
We checked WhoIs and the details and again they had used the details from the auto trade business.
The nameservers point to dns1.name-services.com, but there is no real information at name-services.com. It is just a holding page.
We found the IP address for the site and found some details for a company whose details came up whe we searched for the IP, but all contact details seemed like a dead end. The phone number goes straight to a voicemail without even ringing.
We have reported this to Google and hope they will de-index the site, but we really want this site taken offline and we can't figure out how when the website contact details and domain details all seem to be false.
Does anyone know how to find out who the real owner is or how to get this taken offline under these circumstances? It seems like anyone can just register a domain with fake details, host the site on a server with fake details and then copy other peoples websites.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Tom
