Centering a horizontal css menu
Hi all; It's been a long while since I last used this forum (and a long while since I even looked at my website, life is busy!) I am hoping that some one can help my rusty brain that can't seem to figure this out by itself. I am trying to center a horizontal menu but whatever I do it just aligns left. I am not good with css at the best of times but this is beyond me! See below for what I am using - I have no idea at all which bits I might need to change or what to change them too .menu{margin:0 auto; padding:0; height:30px; width:100%; display:block; background:url('topMenuImages.png') repeat-x;} .menu li{padding:0; margin:0; list-style:none; display:inline;} .menu li a{float:left; padding-left:15px; display:block; color:rgb(5,5,5); text-decoration:none; font:12px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; cursor:pointer; background:url('topMenuImages.png') 0px -30px no-repeat;} .menu li a span{line-height:30px; float:left; display:block; padding-right:15px; background:url('topMenuImages.png') 100% -30px no-repeat;} .menu li a:hover{background-position:0px -60px; color:rgb(255,255,255);} .menu li a:hover span{background-position:100% -60px;} .menu li a.active, .menu li a.active:hover{line-height:30px; font:12px Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; background:url('topMenuImages.png') 0px -90px no-repeat; color:rgb(3,1,5);} .menu li a.active span, .menu li a.active:hover span{background:url('topMenuImages.png') 100% -90px no-repeat;} <ul class="menu"> <li><a href="http://winemakingemporium.co.uk" class="active"><span>Home</span></a></li> <li><a href="http://winemakingemporium.co.uk/winemaking.html"><span>Wine</span></a></li> <li><a href="http://winemakingemporium.co.uk/beer-making.html"><span>Beer</span></a></li> <li><a href="http://winemakingemporium.co.uk/cider-making.html"><span>Cider</span></a></li> <li><a href="http://winemakingemporium.co.uk/make-spirits.html"><span>Spirits</span></a></li> <li><a href="http://winemakingemporium.co.uk/resources.html"><span>Resources</span></a></li> <li><a href="http://winemakingemporium.co.uk/contact.html"><span>Contact</span></a></li> </ul> Any help would be mega appreciated

How does it work making a mobile version of an existing website?
I don't know if i'm posting in the right place but I need for some one to spell this out, lol. My website doesn't look so good on mobile devices and I am majorly confused as to how I would make it compatible. Would I need to have a completely separate site? Would it work off the same url as my desktop site? Also, how important do you think it really is to go mobile?

google webmaster tools is reporting an overnight backlink loss of over 200 links and almost half of my internal site links. How?
Thanks for your replies guys; all good points. I know its been ages since i posted the question but I had clean forgot (crazy life and 2 babies, lol!). I had thought i'd posted back because i actually found out that it had been a google webmaster tools error and wanted others to know too. All sorted now thoug, and my links seem unharmed.

google webmaster tools is reporting an overnight backlink loss of over 200 links and almost half of my internal site links. How?
My webmaster tools data shows that my site has lost over 200 inbound links and just under half of my internal site links. All my pages still show that they are indexed. Can any one guess at what may have happened? I know backlinks can be lost but I find it odd that internal site links appear to have gone too! There has been no use of "black hat" techniques or un-natural link building. Why on earth has this happened and what should I do? My site had been given a pr2 for the homepage within the last two weeks...

Correct use of alternate text for images
Just wondering if there's any one who knows if I should be using alternate text for my websites' header? I am currently using it but feel It may not be correct/appropriate-the header consists of a pink banner containing a picture of a rose and the name of my site.
