Thanks, that was a really great post, and very informative. But I'm also into logo-making, and so I must ask: do you also do your colouring in Illustrator, or do you simply create an outline with the Pen tool, export it to a graphics editor, and do your modifications there?

I'm comfortable with Photoshop -- six years of working in it have seen to that. Yet many web designers seem to use, and sing the praises of Illustrator. I thought I'd give it a try, so I bought it, played around in it. Looked vaguely like Photoshop. Oh, how wrong I was. It took me 10 minutes to figure out how to change colours in a gradient. Everything looks the same but is treacherously different. Does anyone have any advice for me? How do I gain a firmer grip on Illustrator? Is it crucial to use if I plan on starting a web design career in the future? Photoshop has vector abilities, albeit rudimentary, so couldn't I just use that? Thanks in advance.

Well, hi. I'm Ged, and I joined this forum because I've been tinkering with websites for quite some years. I specialise in Photoshop, which I've been working in since 2005, and CSS and HTML, both from 2006. I've had several websites, but unfortunately none of them are still online, and my practical abilities are slightly rusty from lack of any significant work in the last year. Hopefully I'll find a chance here to get my web designer's blood running, as it were. Moreover, I hope to start freelancing soon. I'm not expecting it to be in any way easy, but at least I hope that in joining this forum I'm fulfilling the first step of informing myself. Yeah, well, hope that wasn't too boring.
