  1. Hey everyone. I have quite a bit of experience in website design and development such as html, css, javascript and php. However I'm sure this question has been asked before but "what should I learn?" I don't work in this industry I just have it as a hobby so what are the key languages I should learn. I've heard about cake, ruby, wordpress, joomla, ajax but don't really know much about them and if they are worth learning. Basically if anyone can give me a list of things they think I designer/developer should have, let me know. Thanks
  2. Hi everyone. I have a working website and I want to use a cms to be enable other to update the content. Considering that I have the website already made which cms do you reccomend for me to use? I'm currently using a trial of Joomla but from looking at it, it seems like a cms designed for people who don;t have any coding experience. I haven't found a way I can just upload all of the work I have done and then use joomla to update the content. Can anyone help me with this or point me in the way of some good tutorials?

I have been making a website for someone and have now finished and was wondering if anyone knows the best way for them to update the content themselves as they have no knowledge of how to code? I've heard about CMS software but am not sure which one to use or how to install them. Another question I have is when if the best time to install a CMS system. Should I complete the site first and then install it? Thanks for any help.

I have a very frustrating problem. I have a div that is hidden at the top of the screen and I am using jquery to make it appear when a button is clicked. However when it appears there is a gap between the left of the div and the left of the screen. It's only about 10px wide but I can't get rid of it. I've set the margins to everything to 0 but it doesn't seem to work. This all I have in the body of my document and I have attached my style sheet. Thanks for any help. <div id="top_bar_hidden"> <p>This is the hidden top bar</p> </div> <a id="change_background" class="btn_slide" href="">Change background</a> style.css

I have a row of checkbox above a div and I depending on what checkbox is ticked I want the content of the div or the actual div to change. I was just wondering if anyone knows the best way to do it and could point me in the right direction?
  6. I was wondering if it's possible to make links open applications. For example I have a yahoo messenger link on my website and if the users clicks it I would like it to open up yahoo messenger if they have it installed on their PC. If not then it would take them to a download page for yahoo messenger.

I have a div that I want to sit at the bottom of all of the content on the page. So if there is one line of text it will sit at the bottom of the window and if there are 1000 lines of text it will sit at the bottom. However I don't want it to be fixed in place so if there a scroll bars on teh page the user will have to scroll down to see it. If I use absolute positioning the div will move up if you scroll down and with fixed position it is always sitting at the bottom even is there are scroll bars Let me know if I have explained this well enough. Thanks

I was just wondering if anyone knows of any good tutorials for jquery image hovers and animations. What I want to achieve is find a simple way to increase the size of an image while hover over it. I know this is easily done in CSS but I want to increase to be gradual rather than instant. Any help would be good. Thanks

  24. Hey I have a div that I want to center so I have made the width 200px and set the left and right margins to auto. I have then put an image in this div so its centered. However the images in this div are going to change and they are all different size. To make sure the images are always centered I want to use the overflow property. I was wondering if there is a way to center the overflow? I could do margin-left: -50px if the image is 100px wide but then that won;t work for images that are 300px big etc. So I was wondering if there is a way to center the overflow automatically no matter what size the image is? Let me know if I need to explain this better because I got confused writing this. Thanks
