if I can get a template to use, and go over how it works with my programmer. I can do the design. this is what I want to do as noted in the OP. I just didnt understand why I can't simply duplicate boxes.. but I see its done in the code portion.. so I'm not all that worried anymore. we just need to find some good templates, then buy them outright.... maybe one with 4 boxes, one with 6, one with 8.. and maybe we'll even offer more boxes per page.. it will depend on the client.

yeah, I have NO desire to do any of this.. i HATE programming and all this language stuff. IM LOST as is installing Xampp and all the needed stuff is out of my league. I just like designing things and using photoshop. If we can get some templates, I plan to do the custom work for our clients as I doubt they will have what it takes to create a nice looking store. (even taking good photos of products to load in their database) this is one thing which templates don't do.. once someone downloads one, it totally changes once you put your own content into it. (graphics, photos, colours and logos)

we are not a web design nor hosting company, but we are now incorporating online shopping into our already existing POS system. and thanks for the tips, I will check out any info you or others can offer. and can you suggest or link to any other templates which may be better suited ? I found some freebies on oscommerce..

YIKES. I am fairly new to HTML and CSS.. but I have been into design for most of my life.. My current job or project is to get some sort of template system going so its available to our clients. We are a Point of sale software provider and are now incorporating "WEB INTEGRATION" so our clients can put their products and inventory online.. I don't even know what to ask at this point, but I assumed I could go find a basic HTML template, buy it, download it and then alter it in Dreamweaver using HTML or CSS.. My boss wants people to be able to put as many items as they want on the pages, so I was thinking of finding a template with whatever amount of boxes IE : this one..http://www.templatemonster.com/oscommerce-templates/27317.html and duplicate the div's boxes so there is 6, or 8, or 10 boxes.. now each box should be able to link to the corresponding product with its own page and description (just like it is now) BUT, apparently its not that simple ? I can't just duplicate the boxes I want ? and how would they link to some page which is generated by PHP using the clients server and product info.. this should all be dynamic or something.. but I am lost.. does anyone know how to go about setting up a system like this ? I'd like our clients to be able to choose from a list of templates.. or choose one and edit it adding as many items as they wish... so what might I need to begin researching to make this happen ? I'm currently downloading oscommerce.. and xampp-win whatever.. but I am not a programmer so all this is overwhelming. I have a programmer sitting right beside me and he is the one telling me I can't simply duplicate the boxes.. cause what will they link to ? well, can't we simply code the new boxes (and save that page as a new "8 box" template) so they link to the right translator stuff, pulling the info from a server and generating a new page based on some CSS ? (Im trying to not bother him as he has enough headache here)
  5. I still don't see many issues with using them...
  6. I just joined this forum to find out more about these new APDiv's whats wrong with them ? why don't more people use them or even know of them ? I have made this follwing page using nothing but apdiv's and so far I cannot figure out why people just don't use them all the time ! it was so easy, no padding to worry about, no css (which may be a bad thing I guess, but not having to create one was fun) besides, css is still new to me, as is html, but if we can use wysiwyg "apdiv"s, then why not use them ? and I know, its not always wysiwyg, but please explain why... I find the page works in both browsers (IE and FF) this is a WIP http://possoftware.ca/Welcome%20to%20Ace%20Retail_apdivs.html there is this annoying "forced to the right" thing going on though.. I thought I had created the page with the main apdiv in the centre of the page.. (the background image was 1280 by 1510) and the centre white image which lies behind the main page elements and divs, is 884 px across and the main apdivs are 876 with images that wide placed inside them.. puposely leaving some white peaking out from behind the divs to create the "border edge" so.. the white background image begins at 198.. (1280-884=396 / 2 = 198)
