  1. Thanks. Think I've about cracked the <li> issue too. Haven't added it to the site yet, just steadily losing my hair trying to crack it.
  2. I think I have the images issue sorted out, but struggling on with the <li> issue. Are you guys seeing the images in IE now? Thanks.
  3. Hi Folks Thank you very much for the information and advice I'm trying my best to work out the <li> issue, I started with a working template which I've hacked to death and pretty much doesn't look like the original - with all kinds of bits of code added. I've removed one of the <body> tags. I'll report back to.. your help and advice is much appreciated.
  4. Hi I'm in the process of designing a website and on this page: swallowholidaycottage dot com/cottage/listings/l0006.php There should be ten images. I'm using a Mac with Firefox 4.0.1 and see the images ok. Using my friends machine which is Windows using IE6 the images are not visible. I'm using Dreamweaver to build the web pages, but I'm no html expert and was wondering if any of you folks might know what the problem is. Thanks for any advice offered. P.S. I spoke to the firm I got the templates from and they have told me that the original templates were tested in IE6.... so I must have corrupted the code somehow.
  5. OK folks... let’s say the content of: welcome_slogan.php = Welcome to Joe’s Website. And the content of the database / Record at: content is: Bingy bongy dummy text in Ipsum format stuff. Example that fails... <?php include("welcome_slogan.php"); ?><?php echo $Record['content'] ?> What I’m wanting to achieve is it to write to the page like this: Welcome to Joe’s Website. Bingy bongy dummy text in Ipsum format stuff. All on the same line... What is actually happening is this: Welcome to Joe’s Website. Bingy bongy dummy text in Ipsum format stuff. Tis on two lines... Thanks for your help.
  6. Thanks What I don’t understand is how I make the popup form - take the data from the page it is loaded from. 1. User sees an item - user wants more info. 2. User clicks more info link. 3. Form pops up with reference number of item already in it. 4. User completes form with contact details. 5. Clicks submit Seller receives form in email - with reference number and is able to quickly know which product enquiry is about.
  7. Hello Folks I’m running a simple cms application on my website that allows users to add their products. Each product has a unique reference number. I have also used: http://www.easyphpcontactform.com/ as a contact form. I use a simple Javascript so it pops up in a new window. What I would like to do is add a new form for each product. The idea being that when the user wants more info on a particular product - they click a link which pops-up a form. The form needs to be pre-populated with the product reference number. I can’t work out how to get the popup to have a pre-populated field with the ref num contained on the product page... any help much appreciated. Thanks
  8. Colin Thanks for your help with this. I’m still struggling with my lack of knowledge. I’m very busy for the next few days - then I’ll have another bash at this. I’ll post about how I get on in here. Cheers
  9. Thanks. Ran the “phpinfo” and it gave me this at the “include_path’ as: .:/opt/php-uh5.2/lib/php - but when I tried to load a file to the directory “php” I got a permission denied. I’m guessing my host doesn't want me to write to that directory... I also had a look at the ‘php.ini’ file and it all looks a bit serious and more than I know about. I’m a bit concerned about security - so I dare not change anything on that file until I know more.
  10. Hi Folks Let’s say I want to run several websites about my visits to different places. But on each site there is some similar content... Privacy and T&C’s for example. The structure of my webserver is like this: www/httpd/vhtdocs/domains Is it possible to place a file called say: var_ssiterms.php on the server - which can be embedded into several sites from a single file? E.g: www/httpd/vhtdocs/domain1 www/httpd/vhtdocs/domain2 www/httpd/vhtdocs/domain3 All displaying the same data. Thanks.
  11. OK... now I’m really flummaxed! I did try that before I posted... must have typed something wrong.. just pasted yours into the .htaccess file and the jobs a good un. Thanks Scratches head whilst looking bemused...
  12. Hi There I’m trying to learn php and add index.php files as the top file of each directory. Trouble is, when I load: index.php to a directory on my site called say: ‘test’ Then navigate with browser to: domain/test/ Instead of the page loading - I get this: Index of /test Parent Directory 27-Nov-2009 10:53 - index.php 27-Nov-2009 10:34 10k The above two being links - when I click on the index.php link - it loads the page. I want it to load the page automatically without having to create a url to: index.php I suspect it is something to do with this .htaccess file below which is in the root of my server - I understand needs to be there to serve files ending .shtml - which I am using quite a few of: Is there a way to fix this so that when I navigate to: domain/test/ The index.php automatically loads? Options +Includes AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .html AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .shtml AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .htm DirectoryIndex index.shtml index.html index.htm Options +ExecCGI AddType application/x-httpd-cgi .cgi AddType application/x-httpd-cgi .pl I tried changing it to this below - but the whole site then returned a 500 error: Options +Includes AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .html AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .shtml AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .htm AddType text/x-server-parsed-html .php DirectoryIndex index.shtml index.php index.html index.htm Options +ExecCGI AddType application/x-httpd-cgi .cgi AddType application/x-httpd-cgi .pl Any help or advice much appreciated. Thanks
  13. Thank you. Big help!!! No doubt I’ll be back soon with lots of other badly explained questions.
  14. Thanks Kerry I think I’ve probably done a poor job of explaining myself. Let’s say I have a number pages on which I want to change the content from a single file. By using SSI I can call that file stuff.html which I can keep in a folder called ssi. Then to embed the content of file stuff.html anywhere on a web page, all I need to do is add the the following string of code where I want it: <!--#include virtual="/ssi/stuff.html" --> I’m looking to achieve the same using php So that I have a file with all the variables on that file, which then embed in the page where the correct string is placed. E.g: <?php echo "<p>$example_var</p>"; ?> example_var could be my name: Joe Bloggs being called via ssi from a file called variables. What I’m not sure about is. How do I create such a file and how do I then connect my html page - to the variables on that file. Thanks
  15. Hi Folks I’ve recently retired from full time work and for the past 3 months ish... have been playing with the idea of designing web pages. I’m a bit raw without a ITC background. I’ve pretty much sussed how to use FTP and add images to web pages using Dreamweaver and I’ve leant how to embed content using ssi. Now I’m reading online tutorials about php and trying some of the stuff as I go along. What I can’t get is this: Surely the php variables would NOT be on the same page as the actual content _ they must be stored elsewhere and embedded into the page. Thing is I don’t know where, or how I embed that into a web page from a remote page in the same way as I do using html ssi. Any help on this is much appreciated. Thanks
