I am relatively new to html/css and have been learning it casually for a year or so now.....the thing is i have designed a basic site www.premierchef.co.uk but have attached no doctype. when i attach a doctype it ruins my navigation big time, it bunched the links right up and loses all the margins and padding - please could somebody tell me what i am doing wrong? I have tried loads of different ones but all have the same effect.....help!!
  2. being a total newbie to web design, i didn't actually realise there were other browsers until i started reading more books!!

thing is i'm a bit embarrassed because i'm a total novice who has learned everything i know over the last six months by reading books so a site i think is pretty good will probably be crap!

Hi thanks for your response, Yeah i gathered that you can call different style sheets for different browsers, but i don't actually know how to write them for firefox......when i try to center my #wrapper div and set my links to a set width it totally ignores it. I have tried using firebug - but can't get to grips with it because i don't know what the problem is in the first place!!!

I can produce sites which look ok in internet explorer - but look awful in firefox......i have no idea how to fix the problems because i have only been doing CSS/HTML for about six months so am a complete beginner.....can anybody link me to somewhere that i can learn how to write CSS that looks good in firefox?
  7. Hello everyone, my name is Dean and I am very new to the world of web design and have decided to sign up for a forum to try and broaden my knowledge. I can design sites with CSS which look ok in internet explorer - but they look awful in FireFox.......I have no idea how to fix the problems. I like to generally float elements in a containing wrapper which i like to have in the center of the page......but it never turns out this way when i try to view sites in firefox. Elements end up all over the place, buttons, links and floats are all wrong....so i'm basically a novice looking for help and advice!
