  2. Hi, after i finish my html/css final assignment i am going to start learning how to use photoshop. It sounds like photoshop/gimp is an integral part of a designers tool belt, for graphics and design mock-ups alike. I bought photoshop 7 (with imageready) off e-bay and was wondering if this version will be good enough or will i need to dust my wallet off again and buy one of the more up to date versions such cs3 & cs4?? I should really have asked this question before i bought it, but excitement got the better fo me!! Hope you can help Thanks Colin

  4. Thanks guys that sheds some light on the matter. I am designing a simple html/css website for my local social club, no Control Panel (i think that is what it is called) required as the content will not require updating by the customer. No i havent sorted a web host yet, where could i find a free one, do you think free hosting would be suitable for what i need? Colin.
  5. Hi im wondering if someone can explain the whole process of web hosting, i have recently registered a domain name with domainmonsters.com. I am in the process of making my 1st website and am unsure whether i need to complete the whole website before i get web hosting. Does the web hosting company use something like FTP to upload your pages onto their server or will i have to do that after i have bought the hosting package?? I'm a little confused? Thanks. Colin.

  10. Hi i am currently in the process of putting together my first web site. This is a website i have to produce for my final assignment, as i am still a beginner it is just basic xhtml/css using notepad. The problem i am having is the text in my main content is appearing out of the wrapper, i have a set width of 760px and have a width for the sidebar of 185px. Here is the code and style, it is probably something simple but i need some assistance please guys..
  11. As i am in full employment (not web design) i invested in a home learning course which was useful. But i am currently self learning XHTML, CSS, Dreamweaver and Photoshop using the mass of online information (including WDF) but mostly through books, notably CSS The Missing Manual, which has been a fantastic book!
  12. Hello, i am currently working through my final assignment which is to be a 5 page live website. I have decided to design a ficticous site for a company selling adult halloween fancy dress costumes, therefore i need alot of images of these costumes. I have emailed a few fancy dress costume sites to see if i can copy and paste their images but they have all declined due to copyright. I have also searched on the stock photo sites mentioned on this forum and cant see any that would be suitable. Does anyone know how i could get hold of these images (just like the ones that the online fancy dress firms use)? Hope you can help. Thanks alot Colin
  13. Hello, I'm Col from Lancashire. It's good to be a member of the forum it looks packed full of useful info. I am currently working as an engineer but my ambition is to eventually become a freelance web designer. I know it is going to take an awful lot of hard work and studying but i'm up for the challenge. I have been learning HTML coding in my spare time and have recently bought a couple of books on CSS & CS3 and am looking forward to starting them soon. Many Thanks Col
