July 25, 200818 yr I have been approached by a company who currently have a social networking website (custom made) but it is now very out-dated and not really up to social networking standards. They would like me to recommend software that has everything you would expect from a networking website. I am aware there are hundreds on websites like HotScripts but I was wondering if anybody here has any experience with particular products or could recommend any? As a developer, I very rarely use other people's software! Thanks in advance.
July 28, 200818 yr Facebook have opened up their platform to OpenSource although I believe it will take a lot of work to get it anywhere near like Facebook. The only other alternative I know is that you can use Drupal with various modules to create a pretty solid social networking site.
July 28, 200818 yr The web gurus, that are google have been trying semi successful to set a standard for cross platform, cross browser, cross form social networking. Google provide their own api, you may want to check it out. http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial/
July 28, 200818 yr You'll find it very difficult to find anything which is directly suited to you, it's often better to code your own system as you'll be able to have everything tailored for you
