Has anyone tried Toptal?

Has anyone been contacted by Toptal? What are your thoughts on it?

I'm currently reading some of the reviews:

http://benjaminhopfer.com/2014/05/22/i-passed-the-interview-process-of-toptal-com/

But wanted to hear first-hand experience from the community.

Hello Eugene,

about a week ago I had the first approach to Toptal. Their recruitment process consists of a few steps. The 1st one is a Skype conversation and I'd say it's a piece of cake if you speak english fluently. Despite of that - according to their stats - only about 20% of people passes.

The next step is an online test. It is very university-like and you need to be careful about ratings you get. There are 3 tasks, the time is limited and the points you get are not obvious (that is my opinion). You also need to be careful about the time - when you are short of time, the system automatically saves your latest modifications and use it for calculation (even if your answer is not complete). That was my case - a good solution turned into a wrong answer.

Unfortunately, I have not passed it. Therefore, I cannot tell you how next steps looks like. However, I know it is a live verification of your web-development skills with a supervisor. I will try once again and I am sure the results will be better. I will let you know how it goes then :)

Thanks,

Jacek
