Mac suddenly blocking FTP access

Featured Replies

Arrived at work this morning to find I can no longer connect to any FTP server, via any FTP client on the mac. I haven't changed anything, and at 5.30pm last night I was connecting as normal.

I have checked the routers etc, and am able to connect via the PC I have here, but regardless of what client (cyberduck, fetch, transmit and filezilla all tried) I use, I am unable to connect to any FTP server (tried about a dozen different servers on various hosts).

A quick Google says the mac may be blocking port 21?

I do have Norton installed, and have done for the last 6 months without a single issue like this.

Any ideas?

Check firewall in Security settings.

My money is on Norton though to be honest.

Firewall is off (mac firewall that is), and always has been.

I have disabled Nortons firewall and tried that, still no joy.

OK, I have narowed it down to Norton. If I completely disable the firewall, I can connect. Not ideal, as you can imagine.

Looking at the firewall, there seems to be a 'connection blocking' option, however disabling this alone makes no difference.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Remove Norton, you don't need it :)

I was afraid you were going to say that :)

I'm not likely to run my business on a machine that has no security measures in place...
