Responsive/Grid layout

Featured Replies

I need to make a portfolio for some uni work, I'm just wondering what you guys think the best grid layout/framework is to use? Bootstrap?

I've not used a startup framework for ages so i'm not 100% sure of the frameworks out there!

I like Foundation Zurb because I find their Docs easier to follow.

Nice one, i've just been looking at their grid, looks decent and docs look easy to follow like you said.

Boostraps grid is pretty powerful, when you consider all the push and pull classes and viewport related thing i.e.

<div class="row">
  <div class="col-md-3 col-sm-6">
    ..
  </div>
  <div class="col-md-3 col-sm-6">
    ..
  </div>
  <div class="col-md-3 col-sm-6">
    ..
  </div>
  <div class="col-md-3 col-sm-6">
    ..
  </div>
</div>

Will create a 4 column grid at screens larger than the screen-md breakpoint, which becomes a two column grid from screen-md down to the screen-sm breakpoint.

In my opinion it needs extending in order to create nice mobile UIs but that is easily done.

For an out of the box solution where you don't wanna be writing a lot of css Bootstrap is a good choice. If you need more control over your css look to something like inuit.

If you are comfortable with SASS you could use bourbon neat, you can set how many columns a div should span in the CSS, Eliminating the need for individual classes on a div like bootstrap.

It comes down to your personal preference bootstrap and foundation zurb to be be good and stable
