Hello, and I am ArtistZion. I am trying to create a website that is based on user submission. I also want to be able to link things like: PhotoBucket, DeviantArt, Sound Cloud, etc.

 

All I want to know are what type of things I should know such as:

HTML versions

CSS versions

JavaScript

PHP

MySQL

 

The two big things I really want to know what I can do with are PHP and MySQL.

 

Obviously I will need user-creation forms, how to store the users and their submissions, private messaging, and "front page" material such as top-voted content and recently created content. I would - I forgot what I was going to write so I'm just going to end it here, lol.

 

So yea do you know if there are any WordPress type themes, or websites that have the potential to be able to create such a website? Even a tutorial or two would help.

I'm wondering whether you might be better off looking at the buddypress plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/buddypress/ and http://buddypress.org/ It's a while since I played with it and I think it might take a while to get your head around but it may do what you want. Or it might be complete overkill

I think so, but as I said, it's a while since I looked at it. Buddypress might be too complicated for your needs. You could give it a try to see what you think.

You can set WordPress so that anyone can register and can set a default user role as Author or Contributor for anyone that registers, without any specialised plugin. But then they just get their own access to the dashboard to create posts. That might not be what you are asking for.
