This is going to be aa big task but, I want to get a forum in place starting from scratch without using any phpBB or SMF pre-built forums any ideas on how to do so or where i can get info from??

Forum scripts are usually complex so only start if you know what you're doing, which seems not to be the case with you.

how good is your knowledge of server side scripting and how confident are you in coding with these, if you are not highly confident in these then I would suggest doing something a lot simpler than making a forum. As once you start building up knowledge of how these scripts work you will get a clearer understanding of what it takes to build up a forum from scratch.

 

 

I would say that if it is something that you want to do quickly and have people using then just use a prebuilt forum and skin it. It is simple enough to skin forums to look how you want them to, so if it is just to get it to have the look you want this is a better option.

Thanks for the advice, maybe I'll just stick to prebuilt forums for now then has am not cofident with server side scripting has yet just learning it...
