I'm currently designing the 'print media' for this client - I'll also be involved in the web design in collaboration with the developer.

 

This company is an amalgamation of two experienced and successful engineering organisations with a common goal.

 

The logo is for one of their divisions (traffic management) - In future I'm thinking I can replace the 'road shape' background and the text, to change it into one of their other divisions whilst retaining the overall colours and look?

 

They have many fingers in many pies (which is very unsanitary to say the least) and possibly many burnt and fat finger holes depending on the temperature and softness... but that's certainly none of my business.

 

I had something to work with which is one of the company maxim's:

"It is only through systemisation, standardisation and strict adherence to procedures, that the true benefits of efficiency can be fully realised." A bit harsh, so I designed the logo pretty much 'to the point' but softened it without too much 'floss'.

 

Also, one of the Directors is of Scottish ancestry so that's why the '+' (Ailm) symbol is there top LH corner:

"Ailm is the Celtic symbol of purity that is found in the Ogham. A primeval form of communication in the Celtic culture, the Ogham is a realm of trees that were believed to lend knowledge and wisdom to the seeker. Ailm symbolizes pure energy, integrity, objectivity, clarity, strength and good health.

 

Its symbol represents the branches of the fir tree which is one of the 9 sacred woods used for sabbat fire. This evergreen tree that grows tall & straight and survives through challenging conditions is representative of strength, resilience, endurance, longevity, friendship, honesty, truth and perceptiveness.

The circle in the Ailm symbol is a Celtic sign that denotes the wholeness, intactness and purity of the soul."

 

Probably seems like a complete load of "over produced, concocted rubbish"!! But I reckon if you can give your client a 'story' behind the reasons why you created their logo/website in the way it "looks" (given the nuts and bolts work), it's much much easier to sell the idea.

 

Anyway, so do you think this logo fits the critera? or have I gone too far - or not enough?

I do think, however, that that the "traffic management division" text is a little too thin. The road is subtle enough as not to draw too much attention away from the finer detail, though I worry that it may not suit all media types.

 

How would this logo transfer to, say, the web? Have you thought about a smaller version and what-not?

The "traffic management division" text is good for offset printing ie. general stationery items and brochures etc. (trust me )

 

As for web - that is the question. I think it will be ok if left at around 155px high as posted. Incorporating it into a web page will be the real challenge.

Yep - that exactly what I was thinking.

The logo is for one of their divisions (activity administration) - In future I'm supposing I can reinstate the 'way shape' foundation and the content, to transform it into one of their different divisions whilst holding the general shades and look?

They have numerous fingers in numerous pies (which is exceptionally unsanitary no doubt) and conceivably numerous blazed and fat finger gaps relying upon the temperature and delicate quality... be that as it may that is positively not my concern.

The road more looks a like only for background, not include on the logo it self. IMHO
