Hello.

I would be interested if anyone has any thoughts on my DJ website. http://www.jameswinfield.co.uk

 

It is my first website created since I expanded my CSS knowledge and learnt how to do responsive websites (my previous http://www.ubereadoolische.com/ is rather on the basic side as you can see!).

 

I am still very much a beginner so if anyone can spot anything not working, etc, that would be appreciated. Or if you have any suggestions of any kind.

I find the size of the header a little annoying, it also means your contact link isn't visible (on my resolution).

 

It does the job, nothing seems to be particularly broken, the colours wouldn't be my personal choice but with your mixcloud photo covers they kinda make it a bit more sense/personality.

 

My only concern due to the MixCloud iframes would be the ratio of text to html/non-local content on some pages, but if you keep the blog updated/content fresh it will generally help.

 

I'd maybe also bold the most important words on your index for immediate impact: "Reading, Berkshire" and "underground house/minimal", "house", "disco", "techno".

I must admit that at first (first website) I thought there was an underground scene for reading books

 

The second one is a little bit better but as seems to be the standard blurb "Google and research articles on design and best practices". I can't think of a better piece of advise that that, in truth.

 

Nice work on the responsive side, not many websites are like that.

My thoughts on the site in general are that the site isnt the best but definitely not the worse.

 

I do abit of djing myself when I was younger now its more of a laugh haha.

Don't forget you have to consider its an award wining site so dont be put off but for inspiration it would be cool to reduce your logo and have like a big slideshow of video mixes youve done? that will be well good.

 

To have this just look into plugins.

 

The things I dont like about the site:

 

Colour Scheme - black,purple and yellow? try and do some research on colour schemes. A good tool is the colour scheme designer tool.

 

Logo - the logo doesnt have to be big and in your face all the time to me its makes me want to go off the site because its to much. Try making a more minimal logo. If you want one made try posting a project on design crowd.

 

Navigation - side navs are a bit dated but the main thing that bugs me is the red. Think about someone who is colour blind. its pretty hard on the eye for me and im 20 years old! haha

 

Contact form - if a user finds it hard to find you on facebook or twitter then theyll give up so try having a contact form on your page.

In particular I will have a rethink on the logo though I don't think it is top priority for me.

 

I quite liked the side nav - I did toy with doing it horizontally which I will with my next website project.

 

Definitely not too harsh - I far rather brutal honesty than platitudes. Asking my friends just gets me "oh yeah that's nice" :-)
