Its something I've always been interested in and done as a hobby with varying degrees of success. Open University courses tend to be very good and are held in esteem by employers, of the two you linked I'd say the first is a very short course that would serve as a nice intro. but may not lead to work. The second sounds more comprehensive, but again doesn't sound as if it's quite enough to really set you up. . You may like to look at these courses at Birkbeck University, both part time - usually saturday tutor groups. http://www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/itapps/ css/xhtml, javascript, my sql, php, xml, actionscript/flash etc etc. pick up to 8 from 16. http://www.bbk.ac.uk/study/ce/webdevelopme...s/UEDMEWEB.html post grad diploma that requires fair amount of self study e.g. css. have a look as it really covers the foundations very, very well. i did this last year and am now doing the it apps course to learn programming languages and actionscript/flash. one thing i'm starting to consider for the future is some sort of design/typography/multimedia design diploma/part degree course. think with the two above this would pretty much cover all bases. but that's going to be around 4 years study in total and amount to a full degree. i find university study focuses me, provides more than adequate learning support and gives me bits of paper which potential employers like very much. many on here will point to self study. this is also good - there's some excellent resources around lynda.com, w3c schools etc. but i'll leave that to the anti-organised study brigade good luck

June 7, 200818 yr i am currently doing the OU web applications development course. The first one you linked is used as a way into the other one. The Web apps is not very practical based but is more theory learning about standards,accesibility,security etc. I've done the first two modules that focus on front end development, not sure if i'm going to continue with the others due to funds and time.
