I'm a student currently studying A-Levels in Northern Ireland. I have enjoyed using image manipulation programmes (Gimp then Photoshop) for the past 6-7 years. A few months back I started learning HTML and CSS and now feel confident writing in them. I want to start earning through freelance work in my spare time and build up a portfolio for applying to do Interactive Media in University. I plan on getting clients by offering cheap prices for making websites but I have no idea how much to charge. There are agencys over here charging £2,000 upwards for disgusting looking sites. I can't develop powerful sites but I do have a good eye for design and revising them until they look the part.

 

So for a 5-10 page website purely built with html5 and css3 (php snippets for contact form) how much should I charge to beat the competitors but not under sell my services.

I'm at the same level as you and for the 5-10 pages I offer clients £250 fixed rate. My highest rate is 400. Those are for design fees on their own.

 

What are your overheads like? What does it cost you to take your own time to do this for people? What about hosting and web domains? Think about how much you think you're worth and charge accordingly.
