Hi,

I've joined this forum to expand my knowledge on web design, scripting and the every expanding area of internet and mobile technologies. I've also started a web site offering a graphics catalogue, similar to loads of other pay as you go sites, but there is one price for all images.

If I type graphics catalogue into google there are 13 million hits. If I type "Nitro Graphics Catalogue" I am number 1.

Does anyone know how to identify what position I am in the queue of 13 million (probably 12,999,999)? I kept clicking next but got board by page 3.

Thanks

You're #1 with 'Nitro Graphics Catelogue' because Google search looks for exact words matching the web site titles (which yours is) and embedded meta tags, and then for words randomly found on any given web page. To rise in the ranks, you need to equip your site with meta tags and include content on your site that is commonly searched for. I wouldn't obsess over it though, it'll take a while to get into the top 10 pages, especially given that the average user doesn't look beyond the first couple of pages when searching before giving up. Just give it time.

Also, welcome.

Throzen, thanks for the advice. I also plan to do lots of promotional activity to spread the word.

Good. I would recommend looking at Google Analytics as well as Google AdSense if you planned to pay for publicity. If you use AdSense, be extremely careful about your choice of wording, it means everything.
