New (at) web design

Hi everybody!

Here is my first attempt with minimalism.

It's for a friend who asked me to put together some ideas, but without telling me which ones nor how.

It's still pretty wip, but I'm focusing on style right now. Nothing special to say about typo: I just played with Indesign style options until I was quite satisfied with spacing (it was also the first time I used Indesign: wow, I felt like a kid in wonderland!). Round shape was made by combining grunge brushes, textures and some filters, while the drawing is one of mines.

Bye!

Looks good! Has the makings of a very nice design. All that's really left as far as main page elements go would be a decent nav and footer. Keep it up!

Thanks rhfmedia!

Here are some updates. As you can see, the nav bar is very simple; I'm just not sure if to use a different colour for the highlited voices: maybe a red? Perhaps, it would result reduntant. I'll think to footer later; now, I'm considering to draw my own facebook/twitter etc icons. Does it make sense or better some cleaner design?

Thanks again.

Cheers!

Awesome, totally makes sense to me! I really like how simple and clean it is! Has a very professional feel to it as well. And yes, maybe try either a lighter red or maybe a darker greenish blue for the nav hover.

I tried with red, but it didn't convince me fully.

Footer will be simple as well. I still don't know which links there will be, so I just made the basic structure. The poor bird is just temporary: I need a better scanner (this is a bad picture of a drawing I took with my digital camera).

I'm also considering to add a playlist with some music, but I don't know where. Bottom right?

Thanks, Bruce!

I'm really digging this style, in particular the way pro designers create structures with typo, empty spaces and colours.

And proportions above all. I've been spending the most time on grids, looking for a kind of common factor, so all the elements don't look random (maybe the last sentence is a bit confused, but I've the bad habit of thinking in Italian while writing in English).
