Hi all, one of my clients uses a SEO company just for 1 keyword, that keyword is usually position 3, just lately we have been doing some updates to a few of his sites that required back linking to is main site, he is now position 1, when checking links with http://www.ahrefs.com the only new links for 3 months are the links that we recently created.

 

Is he paying for someone to do nothing or am i missing something?

he never gets a report.

I'd say he's paying for nothing. There might be the odd occassion where backlinks aren't picked up but they have to be pretty obscure.

 

Ask him to request work reports. Any seo will keep a record of everything they do

Also cross-check with Open Site Explorer and see if there's anything there

Thanks, that's what i was thinking, i checked into it because he was asking me why after making a few changes he went to position 1 where for at least 2 years he was always position 3, i know it could be a number of things but there were 3 back links from relevant sites on different servers.

The mix of nice links and a little change to content would've pushed him up there. IF the SEO company were meant to do backlinking then certainly something is wrong!
