September 13, 201214 yr Hello all, I've recently updated my Mac from snow leopard to mountain lion and have been wasting a lot of time moving files and such from my desktop or downloads folder onto sites. Previously I just dragged them from the desktop to where they were needed and accessed the desktop through spaces if I had too many things open in one "space". I know how to access the desktop by pointing the cursor to the (in my case) bottom left corner but if I click on anything on the desktop all the windows come back and I have to resize them to have desktop access. Anyway its quite annoying as I often have Photoshop and or Illustrator plus a browser open as well. I was very comfortable with my drag and drop workflow and hate to change it but it seems I must. Does anyone know of a way around this? Many thanks.
September 19, 201213 yr Continue to use Spaces, via Mission Control? Clicking on the desktop does not cause my Windows to all come back...? I'm using a Trackpad - 5 finger spread gesture.
September 20, 201213 yr Author Thanks Andy, Actually its not clicking on the desktop that makes them all come back, rather when I click on Finder they all come back rather than just Finder and the desktop, same as with mission control. The other windows are behind it blocking access to the desktop. I'm sure I'll work around it eventually but it is a bit of a nuisance.
September 20, 201213 yr Ah I see what you mean. Just use Spaces. Open mission control and make a new space using the + in the top right. Problem solved. You can flick between spaces using the old shortcuts too - CTRL + Arrow.
September 21, 201213 yr Author Fantastic! I thought they had done away with spaces all together. Problem solved. Thanks again Andy.
