Ok, so I am rebuilding a website - the clients current website is live and I am building the new website on a different server with a new hosting provider. So do I need to buy a temporary url to host on the new server to do the development?

 

the current site is for example www.livesite.com so I would develop on a temp url on the new server and then move www.livesite.com to the new server when the the new website is ready? I've read something about redirecting the DNS from the old host? I dont understand fully, can someone explain to me?

You could just do it on your local machine, save time and money. I use ZendServer CE it's free

...and if you need to demo to the client, set it up on a subdomain of your own site (or a subdomain of their domain, pointed at your hosting - the important bit is that it's all under your control until they pay the balance).
