I am completing a school project and need to provide critique on SEO, website development for a company. I have chosen a random company for this purpose. I would like some insight about where to start with analysing this website. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. This is for learning purposes.

Just looking at the home page, all these good things:

 

On page:

- good use of text and lots of juicy keywords <-- although it's hard to know for sure what keywords they should be going for without keyword research

- meta tags and titles all present and correct: view-source:http://www.grantthornton.co.nz/

- use of heading tags h1 h2 etc

- 780 indexed pages

 

Off page

- 5000 odd links isn't too bad http://search.yahoo.com/search;_ylt=A0oG7nmxd61PfUAAX_FXNyoA?p=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.grantthornton.co.nz%2F&fr2=sb-top&fr=ush-smbizc&type_param= , although could do better on social media.

 

That should give you a start. Although if I were you I'd pick a crap site, there'd be much more to complain about. To me that site's pretty good. I bet it has no probs ranking in NZ
