I want to start up as a freelance designer, I'm a long way off yet, so any critique you can give will really help. I've created a portfolio site (even though there's no previous work on there yet as this is my first ever full website).

hey, im also starting up and have been in the process for around a year now. Ive just been learning new things and getting my head around certain aspects I like the site; the idea of it is good. But for me the navigation doesn't look right to me. Mainly because the font seems to have no flow as you have one font in your logo, then another for the heading...one for the nav and another for the body. Its good to have font variations, but try and stick to 2.

 

Also the heading is an image; could you not have used @font-face?

 

overall the ides of the site is a good one but try and get a bit more flow between your fonts and maybe simplify the navigation.

Its not bad, but needs work. Its all out of alligemnet etc. Also you NEED to show other websites you've made. They don't need to be for clients. Invent some ficticious companys, clubs and things, and build sites for them. Punters will always want to see your skills. This will not only build up your portfolio, but give you practice. Looking at your code, its not bad, but you have a mix of a linked style sheet and in-line CSS. In an ideal world, it should all be in the linked stylesheet. HTH

you could use a box shadow instead on the menubg.png. Also not sure why you have used the stripes div as the logo could be set up with a web font to replace header.png and have just one background pic. Same goes for homehead.png with fonts and don't forget to make the site responsive so your mobile customers are happy

kree8or, you're completely right, I'm definitely going to get a few designs under my belt before I go into business. I'll see if my mates want any free websites, or just invent companies like you suggested.

I like the design a lot, especially the color palette you've chosen. But I don't really get the slashes between the items in the header menu, perhaps you could add some space instead? As for the content, I like that you've chosen to have the tex in a bigger size than usual, but I think you should make more out of the services page, as it can be a little bit plain. But all in all, great work!
