March 12, 201214 yr Hello everyone, I am not a pro at wed design but I have made a start. I have just landed my first job, Hooray! Thing is I do not know how to go about it. The customer wants a simple portfolio website and I have a design up and running. HOw do I actually go about publishing it? I mean would I register the hosting on the customers details or my own? Do you guys have your own hosting and publish it to there and direct a domain to it? Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks!

I usually just advise the client on what I think is the best hosting for their site. If they arn't too comfatable with doing that doing things like registering domain names and hosting etc, I usually "hand hold" them through the process. After that, its a matter of trust on the clients part. You could either put the site on a cd-rom (or an other media), give it to the client and they can then do with it what they wish, or if you have a good relationship with the client, they could give you the FTP details and you could set the site up on their server for them. I never register domains and hostings for the clients, if you start down that road, it can bite you on the bum in the future. HTH

The client is local so I think I will meet them and help them sign up for a domain name etc and once the website is complete I can upload it with them. Great advice, Thanks!

Great advice, Thanks! That's fine then, but when you start getting remote clients you need to ensure you can guide them. You could even get yourself a small web hosting reseller account and charge the client directly, that way you should be able to get your account paid for by the client(s) and make a little bit more money per client (plus its recurring!).
