Well I've been involved in website design since the late 1990's when I uploaded my first website. And how proud I was when I realised the whole world would see it and make me into a multi-millionaire overnight. Unfortunately I was brought down to earth when I realised that there were many tens of thousands of sites already on the internet selling similar products.

Luckily for me I grew up using tables rather than frames in those early days so avoided the disaster rankings when it was discovered that websites using frames totally destroyed any chance of decent rank.

I also decided against using flash websites mainly because A. I couldn't afford Adobe Flash and B. the rumours emerging from several of the web guru colleagues said avoid and mentioned to me that the search engines couldn't read the content.

Nowadays I design websites in CSS though am constantly learning new techniques for doing things. Have to say I'm not graphically talented, so rely on others for that skill when higher end designs are required, though do rather well in SEO.

Pet hates:

I don't appreciate unwanted pages appearing in my browser window so stop them from opening in Safari and Firefox. I tend to use Firefox and Safari for browsing the net and am really fed up with the snooping by advertisers so have added the extensions Adblock and Ghostery to my Safari browser. Similar options are available in Firefox.

My top pet hate is forum spammers due to my involvement in several forums having to delete their drivel, they are like viruses draining bandwidth and wasting user and moderator time. My own personal opinion is that instead of targeting the spam user (though he gets deleted or worse), the source link should be targeted.

Forum owners perhaps know of the site causing the grief - though I'm not providing the software name in case it promotes their business. The irony of a denial of service attack taking down their website would be such an embarrassment when caused by several thousand very annoyed forum owners or visitors! Am being sarcastic at this point.

So the reason for joining this site is the help and assistance and the knowledge base of the moderators and users. Working together to help out other users. Sometimes its better to help and give, rather than to just take - I learned this after my son was born - before he was sick on my shoulder and put my iPhone in a glass of water!

Haha, gotta love kids huh..

Welcome to WDF Rich, hope I learn some SEO tips from you :)

It's a shame we have to use AdBlock, some sites I have it disabled for because some great bloggers try to make a living off those ads. The internet should have a law that states all ads should only be made by talented (UX)designers.

Enjoy your stay,

Thanks for the welcome messages, always good to join up with a good team.

Hi evu, yes you are quite right, though our youngster learned a few new words that day which may be considered as swear words and censored if posted on a forum. As for SEO, well I can guarantee for the sum of only £250 to get your site ranked number 1 on Google for a search phrase I will choose - OK only kidding about that - why do so many people fall for that sales pitch

EDITED: Also - I need to figure out in adblock how to allow certain adverts on high quality sites to remain so they can enjoy the life of leisure they rightly deserve :D

Renaissance-Design, you are so right about the X, though forum owners are now starting to fight back using ever more ingenious methods. I particularly like 'Project Honey Pot' which provides the means to block the spammers from even reaching your server let alone spamming your forum.

Can I also say that I tried drying out the iPhone in a bag of rice as recommended on the internet, and it didn't taste particularly good after the wife had cooked it :o
