Hi guys i have been learning a bit of web design recently and have been on and off for a few years learning this and i would say i am more beginner level i have been self teaching myself but also joined up this site to learn more :)

So here is my site http://www.homecook-stirling.co.uk

i am doing the web validation so have a few errors i am going to try and fix

The menu page im still tweaking arond with it but my home page i am more less happy with

i like the marquee with scrolling pictures but don't know if it is to old fashioned or if

anything can be added to make it bit nicer like some effects

what i have done the site with is some html and css which i am learning little more each time and so far thats as far as my design knowledge go's :s

So guys any feedback would be appreciated ? thank you

p.s i am a new member don't be to hard on me ha ha

Hi mate,

The first thing I'd have to say is I don't like the solid red background, in my opion it's just too much. Maybe try and use a subtle texture instead.

Also what is the width of the site? I have fairly large monitor on my PC so it appears fine, but on my macbookair 13" I have to scroll across to view the rest of the content, I generally stick to a width of 960px for my sites.

Maybe add a mailto: link to your email address.

All in all it does have a bit of an amature feel but like you said your at a beginner level so that's fine, it's something you can build up from. Look around the web for some inspiration, that would be your best bet.

All the best,

Ash

Hi ash

thank you for feedback I take on board that maybe others will find the red to much and your suggestion of a subtle texture I like and will look into first impressions are everything.

The width I've used is1200px and was fine on my large tv and iPad but I have to make it viewable all over other browsers to.

The mail to link I should have linked aswell as some other parts.

Inspiration is something I need to pick up on and learn unfortunately I don't have a great artistic mind and will need to learn to think out the box

And learn how to use graphic/images as they are just basic

I'm just glad it's not to bad in your eyes and it will do the job needed it seems to be a never ending learning experience and a lot

More to learn to add to my bow which I hope to do and show more off.

It really is an ever lasting learning process and no matter how much you study something new will always come round the corner! ;)

I think anyone would be lying if they said they didn't have a snout around the web for inspiration, it's how some of the best ideas come about, so don't be afraid to.

All the best and good luck with your site.
