April 22, 200818 yr I've just noticed the new graphics and sound for all the BBC News (local and national) and I must say I think they've done a much better job than last time, with the light beams flying all over the shop. The new titles are a lot cleaner and modern, and have got rid of all the fluff and darkness from the previous version. I feel they really fit in with the way the BBC is headed currently, clean and fresh — it matches the iPlayer and new website excellently. Here are some videos about the changes: New titles for BBC TV News New titles for BBC Regional News BBC News through the ages What do you think about it? Did you even notice? Do you care?
April 22, 200818 yr I'm not so sure about the TV spots... There's nothing particularly wrong with them but they don't exactly blow me away either. I suppose they are keeping a tradition of spinning globes and radio transmission effects, but I think it's a bit of a cliche too. However, you mention their new web design and I actually think they've done a great job there without drastically changing the layout, the site is so much more friendly to use and browse.
April 22, 200818 yr saw a preview glance last week. haven't watched them on the tv as yet. but as i work for bbc news i have to be careful what is say! but still they looked good - really. did like the old gfx actually - given it's *news* i do think we should have a serious theme to them. so disagree with your comment rob, though i know where your coming from. and of course not all news is bad news. iplayer and new website good point, these are a diofferent kettle of fish.. but it is horses for courses, let's take the analogy to the extreme gfx for tv, film or book cover for a serial thriller - going to be dark, moody etc gfx for childerns tv, film or harry potter book - bright, fun etc let's retain the shades and differences and try and avoid everything becoming one bland homegenous happy graphic!
April 22, 200818 yr Seem nice enough - read some article on the Guardian about how viewers were complaining of nausea, and there was a suggestion that it might trigger epilepsy. Personally I think it's nice visually - but quite confusing/disorientating. I like the transmission motif - but I think it comes at the expense of conveying other concepts about distribution of news.

People will complain about anything, though — I can't see how this one would trigger nausea any more than the speeding light beams. I think this one will grow on people, it must be extremely hard designing something that the whole country is going to see and when they are all used to the previous design. Bit like the Olympic logo (which I still think is crap), that has been forgotten about now.
April 22, 200818 yr Well if people aren't complaining about something then they aren't happy... Personally I think it is ok, its not the greatest thing in the world, but its not the worst so it is just ok
April 22, 200818 yr Bit like the Olympic logo (which I still think is crap), that has been forgotten about now. It is awful I agree!
