April 22, 200818 yr Hey Guys, Newbie here... I'm a Graphic Designer that's attempting to learn and develop my own website. So far I took a few Dreamweaver classes and subscribed to an online tutorial website. With a little knowledge I'm feeling good and want to start on the website ...LOL. I feel somewhat confident building the basics but when it comes to showing my portfolio online I'm not to sure about how to build it? What I like to have is some small boxes with a small portions of a design showing, when the mouse rolls over it, it highlights and when you click on it it appears. I think this might be Flash? I don't know this person but here is a link for an example of what I'd like to do... Example of what I like to do Thanks for any help and direction. Dave
April 22, 200818 yr Hello look at mine http://boyleswebdesign.com/portfolio.html. I use script called lightbox google it
April 22, 200818 yr I don't know this person but here is a link for an example of what I'd like to do... Example of what I like to do That one was Flash. You can purchase it from here. I've used it for my own portfolio here. You can either use it as is (you just edit an XML file and drop your images into directories - one for thumbnails, one for full-size), or you can edit the appearance with Flash if you have it (they supply the original file).

Dave Hi Dave, the way you show your portfolio is nice, but what are you going to do when it grows up, i see that there is no way that you can put scrollbars and still look good. Take a look at http://cssmania.com/ they have pretty nice layout
April 22, 200818 yr The simpleviewer one allows for more images than are displayed at one time. Arrows appear that let you "scroll" left or right through the thumbnails as required.
April 23, 200818 yr Author Thanks guys, that exactly what I'm looking for, Lightbox... I've been reading up most of today but it's not soaking in? I've read how to install it by added the Prototype Framework and Scriptaculous Effects lines in the header. <script type="text/javascript" src="js/prototype.js"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/scriptaculous.js?load=effects,builder"></script> <script type="text/javascript" src="js/lightbox.js"></script> Now for the Newbie questions so please bear with me here... Under the Prototype Framework and Scriptaculous Effects lines do I need to add it's own CSS to make it work? For each image I want to add within Lightbox... Where and how do I place them? How do I name the images so that they'll be active in Lightbox? How do I activate the whole thing... man I feel dumb with all this? If this is just to much can someone point me towards a pretty nontechnical site online... geees I'm brain-dead here LOL? Thanks, Dave
April 23, 200818 yr Not sure what version of lightbox you're using, but for a site I made I had to do this: <a rel="lightbox" class="img" href="whatever.jpg"><img title="" alt="" src="thumbnail.gif/></a> Add the "rel="lightbox"" to your link.
April 25, 200818 yr Author Hello again...Newbie here, Welp, I'm still working on my site thanks to this forum and it's almost done. I'm still having issues with my gallery though. This is what I have done to this point. I'm installing Simpleviewer and have downloaded the zip file. I made my thumbnails and images, placed them in there respected folders and check to see if it worked with the image.html file that was included, they do... yea. Now the problem I cut and past <script type="text/javascript" src="swfobject.js"></script> to the head. Then wrote where I wanted the viewer to be seen: <div id="flashcontent" align="center">SimpleViewer requires Macromedia Flash. <a href="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer/">Get Macromedia Flash.</a> If you have Flash installed, <a href="../large_forrmat/index.html?detectflash=false">click to view gallery</a>.</div> <script type="text/javascript"> var fo = new SWFObject("viewer.swf", "viewer", "300", "480", "8", "#181818"); fo.addVariable("preloaderColor", "0xffffff"); fo.addVariable("xmlDataPath", "gallery.xml"); fo.write("flashcontent"); </script> </div> All I get on my page is "SimpleViewer requires Macromedia Flash. Get Macromedia Flash. If you have Flash installed, click to view gallery." It's in the right place just not my images? Any thoughts on this? Thanks, Dave
April 25, 200818 yr href="../large_forrmat/index.html?detectflash=false">click to view gallery</a>.</div> 'format' is misspelt.. is that how the directory is spelt as well or is the url wrong?
April 25, 200818 yr Author 'format' is misspelt.. is that how the directory is spelt as well or is the url wrong? No, that's my wonderful spelling... after changing forrmat to format it now says "SimpleViewer requires JavaScript and the Flash Player. Get Flash." but still no images? Boy after all day working with this all day, I feel so close to finishing if I could just get over this hump?
April 25, 200818 yr var fo = new SWFObject("viewer.swf", "viewer", "300", "480", "8", "#181818"); Have a check of that path for the viewer.swf I'm presuming you have flash player installed, so the only other thing I can think of is that it's not finding the swf that would replace the "you haven't got flash" text If that still doesn't work, try : var fo = new SWFObject("/viewer.swf", "viewer", "300", "480", "8", "#181818");

I was getting the following in the area I want my gallery to show up: requires Macromedia Flash. Get Macromedia Flash. If you have Flash installed, click to view gallery, The blue text is clickable. I pointed the click to view gallery to my gallery and it open another page with the gallery. I would like it to be on the original page much like yours does. Your portfollio is exactly they way I want mine to be. Also, why does the "requires Macromedia Flash. Get Macromedia Flash. If you have Flash installed," show up, I don't want it there?
April 25, 200818 yr Also, why does the "requires Macromedia Flash. Get Macromedia Flash. If you have Flash installed," show up, I don't want it there? I'm guessing that it's a problem with the path to the viewer - it's not being found, so the text shows up in it's place. If you like, zip up the site and send it to me (bumfluff at seed-design dot co dot uk) and I'll take a look at it.. without being able to see the directory structure and all, it's mostly guesswork.
