It's my first post and I am feeling a little , so please be as patient as you can 'cause I'll probably be asking a lot of "noob" questions since I am a complete nooby to web design. I want to design my own websites for my company and... as far as I know I'll probably need to buy myself a software of some kind, so my first questions are: Where to start and what to buy????
April 13, 200818 yr Hello and welcome to the madhouse! Before you splash out on software you won't necessarily need, I'd suggest reading up on HTML and CSS. These are the two main languages you'll need to know to start off with (and yes, they are closely linked, so don't worry too much!) Websites can be built with tools you already have on your computer. All you need to get started is a plain text editor, and a bit of patience!

April 13, 200818 yr Welcome to the forum Rachael is exactly right! To make a website you don't really need anything other than notepad (the text editor in windows) and a browser like IE or Firefox. This may change as you get more confident and what to try new things for the time being, I suggest you start here: http://www.w3schools.com/html/default.asp After you've been through HTML, there is a tutorial on XHTML and on CSS The Web Building tutorial is also a good place to go for a good tutorial on all things web : http://www.w3schools.com/site/default.asp These tutorials should give you the grounding you need to make your first website. Once you have gotten the hang of this stage you may wish to get hold of an FTP client (Filezilla is a great free one) and an application for designing your own graphics if this is something you want to do aswell (Gimp is another great freebie). For now I really suggest you focus on reading up, and don't worry about making any purchases until you are comfortable and know exactly what you want/need.
