Feedback for Game Server Community Website

Featured Replies

Hello WDF! I find this forum really friendly and I'd like some feedback on one of my latest designs, it's a website for a game server and I wanted the site to be different from all the other ones out there. Lots of other gaming sites look quite dark and have quite poor designs, so I decided to make this one nice and bright. I'm looking for good feedback that would improve the site, even the little things that could make this site better, also; tell me what you think, is it good? I'd really appreciate any feedback that you can give.

First I'll post a screenshot of the homepage and I may add some shots of other pages later, thanks!

The image in the center of the homepage is actually a slideshow.

Spooky! I was just taking a quick break from building a Minecraft Wordpress theme and this was the first topic I clicked on.

In my opinion there's a big clash between the header and body. You've got the faded screenshot which looks very weak contrasted against that bright blue. It makes the header look lost and disjointed from the rest of the page. Maybe consider a lighter tone for the blue gradient, or even drop the header image and use something a bit more striking to compliment the blue.

The "Where Creepers Roam Free" title is too big. It dwarfs all the other content on the page, even the site title. I'd reduce it down and maybe add a bit of colour to differentiate it from the body text.

The drop shadows are a bit heavy as well - maybe try a medium/dark blue instead of black.

It's a good start though. Keep working at it!

Interesting thoughts, it's nice to have a fresh opinion on it, I'll think about that, I've been considering doing something better with the background, perhaps a bit of a darker gradient with noise or something? Thanks for your other points, I'll act on them and update the screenshot accordingly later.

Thanks guys, keep them coming!

@John Fotios: Would be nice if you could elaborate?

That looks a lot better. The header is a lot stronger and the whole page feels a lot more together.

I think the blurring on the screenshot at the bottom is a bit too heavy. It almost hurts to look at it, maybe reduce that down a bit.

Apart from that, the amount space above and below the menu in the header is different. I'd make them the same so it looks a bit more balanced.
