So I have recently started out as a freelance web designer and over the past few days I have been making a lot of changes to my site, so thought I would post a link on here to get some good feedback.

 

Coded in XHTML 1.0 Strict from scratch and has a little PHP thrown in for good measure

The site's okay but a little too basic and simple as opposed to minimal. Add some detail in the form of gradient (or not) and push the site over the boring line whilst still keeping it clean and fresh. As a web designer's portfolio, it seems to basic and not a great showcase of the very best of your abilities.

 

Also, add something to your potfolio, even if it's template work or mess-about stuff. An empty portfolio looks bad!

 

Another two things: I don't see a need for w3c validation badge; secondly, the contact page should have a name field, instead of writing "At the bottom of your message, you should also clearly state your name."

thanks for your reply......it is a little boring i totally agree, i have added a name field to the contact page like you suggested and am now working on the layout of that page and will re post soon....

well my course wasn't actually web design, it was just one of the things covered. Oh and.....errr, yer i like <br/> tags i know its not good practice, but for my own website i'm not too bothered, and once again....not good practice.

If you're not bothered about your own website, why would anyone bother to hire you? You know it's bad practise, but you still do it, I don't get that? It is in your interest to do things properly, if you wish to one day make a living from it. If you don't then don't expect to make any money from it, nobody will pay someone who can't be bothered to do the job properly..

I really don't like this David Hellmans illustrations, is it just me or is everything out of proportion? I Like the design and the navigation, but the images, DEFINITELY not a fan.

i can be bothered to do it correctly, but at the time of creating my site a threw it together in a couple of days so there may be a couple of bits of coding scattered around which need fixing....I would never use sloppy coding for my clients as like we have both said, its bad practice.

Whether you like it or not, it absolutely succeeds in being visually stimulating and engaging. The fact is, if you're a client, and you see that and you also see a website which is white and boring, you're going to instantly forget about the boring site and go with the one that pops out at you.

was the white and boring site a dig at me? i joke.....i have now fixed the problem of having millions of line breaks....
