Im working on my own website design and hosting company at the moment, and would love some honest feedback about the direction the website is going in.

 

I know that there is no content in yet (apart from the packages page).

 

Also, what do you think of the three packages I'm offering?

 

I'm going to be working on a Dell inspired 'Build your own' feature soon.

 

I will admit from the off, I'm more coder then designer... so tips very welcome!

Design is 100% about content so without any it's hard to comment.

 

Aesthetically things are decent. With some refinement I think you could have a rather unique site there. I'm not going to go into detail until you have a design to comment on.

This is slightly disconcerting. Do you have a business partner who is a professional designer? Why are you offering design services when you are admittedly a coder? It's not something you can just decide to do without a great deal of knowledge and practice.

 

I'm not trying to be adversarial but I'm genuinely worried that you are misrepresenting your ability (to the detriment of web designers).

I like the design, it's simple yet elegant. I would make the weeds on the bottom of the page a part of the background that is always visible no matter the amount of content. On my 1680x1050 monitor the weeds are hidden on this page: http://www.sharkeyweb.com/interim-development/packages/ which makes it look less appealing than the home page.

Thanks for your feedback porkchops. Don't get me wrong, I have done designs before...

 

When i say I'm more coder then designer, I mean exactly that. I just am more comfortable coding then designing. I just enjoy it more. I do however think that when i start work on a website, I can make nice designs.

On the packages page, can you not see the weeds at all? Or do you mean you have to scroll down to see them?

 

I can try to position the weeks to relative so they are on the screen at the bottom no matter if apple content is present if you think this will be better?

Seems like you've got a nice theme to play with. My only concern would be the method you have used to pop the logo off the site, outer glow is a really dated effect and can really ruin websites. On this occasion I feel you could benefit from thinking of an alternative method, maybe a nice white stroke around the shark, this ties in the white of the text too. Apart from that, I think you should reduce the saturation of green on the seaweed and keep pushing the design.

 

Cant wait to see the finished piece.
