Foundation Website Review

Featured Replies

Hello Designers!

I'm looking for some thoughts about this design I've been working it. It is for a foundation that donates money to various charities and arts programs.

A few notes

  •
  • The banner image is a comp of a stock photo from istockphoto.com. It will be much higher quality of course and this will rotate images.
  • The grantee profiles section will have thumbnails to the right.

This is my first post here and I'm pretty excited to be joining a community of designers. I've been in need of more direction and inspiration for a while from more experienced designers.

Thank you!

Hi there, t3chnobear!

First of all, welcome to the forum - I'm new myself here, and this is my first review, too!

I think you've got the foundations for a nice concept, I've a couple of suggestions which may improve it slightly.

First negative is that I think it may be a little too boxy. Perhaps try to round parts off, or divide sections with lines instead of solidly defined backgrounds and borders.

Secondly, I'm not keen on the combination of brown and blue - I think it comes across quite dull. Perhaps a little more saturation and contrast could be the key! :)

Third of all, it seems to lack an element of graphics. Try touching areas up with small images or gradients. For example, success stories could have some large quote-marks used in the background, top left and bottom right - you'd have to pad the text a little more, but this could work quite nicely.

I'll let the others have their say, but I hope you'll find my comments constructive, despite them being quite vague!

Thanks and good luck!

Ricky.

Hi t3chnobear

I think the wireframe design is nice and clean but I don't think the colour scheme is quite right.

The logo is a poor contrast against the dark background.

The brown main content area doesn't seem to work well with the dark blue background and the red box just screams out and it's the first place my eyes are drawn to.

I think the site could do with some pictures of people to create an emotional connection with your visitors and some calls to action on the homepage.

Just having text explaining what the foundation is OK but try to turn it into a selling proposition. e.g.

"The HIND Foundation is here to provide funding for exciting cultural community-based projects in the San Luis area.

Contact a memer of our foundation team and let us know about your local project. We may be able to help you."

Hope thelps.

Cheerz,

Wil.
