Before the paint dries, please help:

 

I have built my first affiliate site to generate extra income. But it doesn't seem to generate anything really cause i think there is something wrong with the design.

Can you folks have a look and give your critique with any suggestions regarding the placement of content and design that could help improve my site?

 

Does it seem a bit over crowded with adsense and banners etc...?

 

Has anyone else done something similar and made it a success?

I don't think there is anything blatantly wrong with the design.

 

I think the bigger problem might be, to put it delicately, that it's a tad generic. I mean, there are tons of credit report sites, right? And yours doesn't especially stand out either with the design or with features. It's not bad, but could you come up with some sort of unique feature that will bring people to the site, whether it's a credit discussion forum or some really helpful articles? (You're getting there with the latter.) Then there would be at least some compelling reason for visitors to choose your site over the competition.

 

It also wouldn't hurt to SEO the heck out of it since, again, it's an extremely competitive market. You have the inside track with your domain name, but optimizing the pages would take it a step further. Just be careful to balance the human element of the site (the aforementioned articles, etc) with "writing for robots".

 

Ultimately I think the choice (if you don't do both) comes down to whether you are expecting a customer base consisting primarily of people who are actively Googling for credit report sites or whether you want to bring people in for another reason and make them go, "Oh, while I'm here I'll get a free credit report!" It would be SEO for the former and content/unique selling point for the latter.

I think the points you raised are very valid and i appreciate your comments. I shall look to follow your advice.

 

I think in particular the comment regarding an unique feature point. Would anyone have and ideas or concepts i could introduce to my site to bring in visitors?
