Getting frustrated with the default setting that I have on my version of Photoshop. When I use the Pen Tool, I can't seem to set an anchor point without the anchor handles affecting the curve. In Illustrator this doesn't happen, I can simply click again on the anchor point and the handles dissapear, allowing me to set an anchor point without a curve.

 

I recently restored my computer and I'm sure I didn't have this problem with my previous installation of Photoshop so I'm guessing there is a fairly simple solution, but I can't seem to find it.

Anchor will always effect curves, that's their point. Try explaining what you problem is again because I'm not getting it.

I did have a feeling people wouldn't understand what I am talking about

 

There is probably a simple way of putting it, but after a few glasses of Whisky its probably best to attach an annotated image.

Where is that line coming from... you don't have an anchor point on the end of it.

I have the rubber band option checked.

 

You know what, I've just had a play around with it now and I actually think the Pen Tool just works slightly different to the one in Illustrator, need to get used to it.

I does work vastly different than the one in Illy. I wish it was more like the one in Illy (like the spacebar to move the active point).

yeah, Ive forgotten about the rubberband option. I never use it because I am already use to how the pen works and acts.

To be honest I never actually used it until I started messing around with the settings in Ps trying to work this out, it can come in useful sometimes but like you said its not really required if you already know how the pen tool works

Its simple. In photoshop you will have to press and hold "Alt" button and then click on the last anchor point, the anchor handle will get disappear then the next click will result a straight line.

using Alt button pressed you can also move the anchor handle to modify your curve. Let me know if its not clear enough.

1.Photo shop pen tool you have three options: Create a new work path, Create a new shape layer, and Fill Pixels.

 

2.We will use the Create a new work path option as this the most commonly used. You can find these options in the top left hand corner of the Photo-shop window. See the image below.

 

3.Just like selection tools, the pen tool has several different options for the resulting path. The most commonly used is “add to path area”. See image below.

 

4.Take your pen tool and click on a blank canvas similar to what I have done below. Each time you click you create an anchor point.

 

5. Hold down Shift, move the mouse and click again. Holding down shift while making an anchor point creates it in a straight line with the last anchor point.

 

6. We can add and delete anchor points on the path we have created. Right click on the pen tool on the toolbar to reveal further tools. Use the Add and Delete Anchor Point Tool to do just that!
