December 5, 201015 yr I noticed on Freelancer a number of posts for people who wanted a website cloning. Which got me wondering if you wanted a site that was similar in layout/structure/etc to one that was already in existance if there was any real benefit to having the original site cloned to be used as some kind of template? The reason I ask is I've got "a project" that is way beyond my very basic abilities to be built from scratch and looks like it's going to have to be done in small stages as and when I can afford the work to be done once I find someone willing to work on that kind of basis. Anyways there is a very similar online communtity site already in existance serving a very different industry and whilst it would need 100% new content it might be that having the clone of the site might mean I could replace the content one page at a time whilst keeping the site working. It's either that or I suppose I could build each page in Fireworks one at a time and have someone stitch it all together later? Any thoughts/ ideas/ insults?
December 6, 201015 yr Cloning another site isn´t good and it might become a bad habit and lazy one. The best way is to look up for some layouts and change it a bit to how you and the client you make for want´s it. Most designers get idea´s from either, Other mnade layouts, Theme or culture, Subject of the Client. Personally I´m against website cloning. I rather hear what a client want and from there I will do mine bit of twist. But so far in mine job I only code layouts up so I don´t need to think of a design all the time.
December 6, 201015 yr If you are going to use the layout as a base but change it and made it diffenrent so that it doesn't look identical then doing this in Fireworks yes someone would be able to take your Fireworks document and make it into a working website. I would only use the site you have seen as inspiration though rather than as I'll take a straight copy.
