How are forums created?

Featured Replies

I wonder with which stuff are forums being made?

I mean like, with Javascript, MySql, JQuery?

Just intrested, I want to add in the further a hand made forum.

I'm 1 of those people who want everything to be hand made by tekst and not by others.

So what's all the combinations?

Just wonderd:)

generally, PHP/mySQL. One day you will learn that the wheel doesn't need reinventing.

The best thing to do would be to download and install a free forum like phpbb3

http://www.phpbb.com/downloads/

then start editing it to your requirements.

However, you will be surprised how many files there are and how complicated it can be. I spent some time finding the background image to be able to edit that.

Well.

Just started at the .php section and in the meanwhile, I'm manupilating javascripts in order to get more skills in javascript.

MySql would be mine next victim that I'll going to learn once done with .php.

I think it will take around 3-5 months before I know the entire php/mysql stuff.

Only took a few months to understand. css, html, xhtml.

1 month for basic understanding in javascript.

If you have any previous programming experience you could probably learn enough PHP in a month to create a forum. It's fairly simple database hookup type stuff. Making it look pretty is another matter.
