July 21, 201016 yr I'm looking for an e-commerce solution for Milomade and was thinking of running it through Wordpress. I downloaded and installed WP e-commerce and found it a total nightmare. No decent documentation on how to customise the look or set it up - just found info on the basics which just isn't enough for me. So I did a search for other wordpress plugins and found eShop and EcWid and out of the two I thik EcWid looks great. It may not be so good for SEO right now but it looks like the easiest to implement and I could probably add it to my site as well as my Facebook page at the same time. Has anyone else used it? Is it any good?
July 23, 201016 yr I have been using WP Commerce too and have no end of issues and yes the documentation isn't the best. So am looking into other solutions too...have you tried the other out yet?? I have just been testing EcWid - You have to sign up to their online control panel, install the WP plugin. But everything is controlled from their site. This is where you add products etc etc.... Not sure if this is a good thing, moving from one site to another all the time?
July 23, 201016 yr Shopp for Wordpress seems good too...they have an online demo/admin demo but it costs $55 for a single licence, which means you have to pay up before you can really see if it works for you... Let me know how you get on..
July 28, 201016 yr Author I bought shopp last year and installed it and it was a nightmare. I only got proper support when I threatened to demand my money back and then after that was pretty much ignored on the forums. Found it really really hard to implements and the updating system didn't work and so everytime they brought out a new version I had to manually update and was never sure I was doing it right. Definitely NOT worth the money. maybe they've improved their documentation, but I doubt it. WP E-Commerce was also a complete nightmare and crap documentation - such a shame as I bet it's a great plugin. So I opted for Ecwid. Signed up for an account and managed to set up my shop in less than two days. Support is absolutely excellent - with ALL my forum posts being answered in less than 24 hours - some straight away. You basically install the plugin - set up a wordpress page for the shop, do a few tweaks within wordpress and then literally work within the ecwid control panel to sort out the design and layout and add your products. i've found it an absolute breeze to set up and think the front end and functionality really good.
July 30, 201016 yr The only downside to the ecwid is the fact that it's not apart of Wordpress - I wouldn't like my client (who is not tech savvy) to have two different places to log into. WP for blog etc and ecwid for shop.... Was going to buy the shopp plugin...until your review! How long ago was this? WP Commerce is okish...if you get it working...just don't press any more buttons!!! ha I think someone should finally come up with a proper 'good' wordpress shop plugin!
July 30, 201016 yr Author Don't let my review of shopp put you off - I'm sure it's a great plugin if you know your way around e-commerce stuff. I was totally new to it at the time and my wordpress skills then weren't as good as they are now. I bought it over a year ago and not re-visited it, so check out the site and have a look at the forum and see if the documentation is OK and whether questions are getting answered quickly. I know what you mean with regards to ecwid and having a separate login etc. I've set a shop up for myself and so I'm find with that, in fact I have quite a complex site now. It's in HTML, then I've got a wp blog attached to it and then another install of wp for the shop [i wanted to keep it separate from the blog] and then the ecwid cpanel. I now realise I should've probably set the ecwid shop up on just a plain html pge, but I was in a rush and wanted to make use of all the wp plugins as it makes getting the structure and layout together quicker.
August 27, 201016 yr I used ecwid for a client recently. No headaches at all. Smooth, works great. Started selling the same day it was launched. You may need to dig deep into the css customization, and hyperlinking if the widgets are not up to design standards, Other than that, it works as a standalone mobile shop, as a part of any programming language, html, php, whatever.... and the wordpress plugin adds a lot given it sets up the SEO for you if you're an ecwid payin member.
